We're in our 6th year with our TFP. When I said I wanted a pool, hubby said fine, but I would be in charge of maintenance. Fortunately I found my way here very early on. Here are some thoughts on our build, and features that have made it pretty darn trouble-free and easy to maintain.
1) Screen enclosure. If you have ANY trees around and care about ease of maintenance, this is a must have. It's also a second barrier from a safety perspective. Love ours, and can't imagine the hours saved in cleaning the pool and patio.
2) Salt water chlorine generator. We just came back from a 6 week trip and the pool is crystal clear. It's just so easy! Yes, there are times we need to manually add chlorine but they are few and far between. I really can't emphasize this enough.
3) Robot: I love, love, love our robot. I never have to manually vacuum, and since he climbs the walls, I don't brush unless there's a problem.
4) Automation with app. The Hayward app is clunky and not intuitive, but it does work and I'm used to it now. I can control the temperature, schedule, and chlorination level from the comfort of my lazyboy or the other side of the planet.
5) This site, obviously. If you're here for advice on your build, stick around to balance and maintain your pool. The method works, and your pool will be a sparkling pleasure with truly minimal effort on your part (if you factored items 1-4 into your build).
Congratulations on your journey into pool ownership!
