Just filled the new vinyl pool up (15,300G) salt pool. Added ten 40lb bags of salt and 2 6-1 shock bags (1lb each). Brushed salt in good first then shock at night. Woke up to a very clear but green pool. I am still waiting on Taylor test kit so had to go to local pool testing facility. Pump was running but not the chlorinator

Results:
Copper 0
Iron 0.2
Total alkalinity 298
pH 7.9
Chlorine shock 0.26
Free chlorine 0.26
Combined chlorine 0
Cyanuric acid 5
Calcium hardness 0
Phosphate 1,701
Salt 3,650

Pool store suggested 2 gallons muriatic acid
4 lbs shock

Our local water is generally very brownish/green from start. The chlorinator is now running, I set it the the highest 24 hour setting to start. Wondering if their advise seems correct as I’d like the swim this weekend. TIA.

Welcome to TFP.

Your pool needs chlorine and CYA ASAP.

What % Muriatic Acid did they sell you? 2 gallons of 31% Muriatic Acid is way too much.

You need your own test kit and to stay out of Pool Stores.

Download PoolMath and learn to use it.

31.45% transchem is what the sold me. I added 1/3 gallon last night and another 1/3 gallon tonight. My Taylor salt kit is set to deliver Friday (in the days) as I couldn’t find one locally.

I set the chlorinator to 24 hours highest serving yesterday and woke up to a much less green pool but their second test showed almost no change in any thing but increase in salt.

Today’s test below. They also suggested adding 2 lb of shock into skimmer from which I have heard nothing but do not do

Wait until you get your test kit to add more chemicals. You run the risk of damaging your liner if you get your pH too low or chlorine too high.

Never add any chemicals through the skimmer.

Thanks. I’m sure I’ll have a learning curve with the test kit (first pool) but not trusting the local pool testing I’ll hold off.

6 days after fill.

I’ve been testing and adding still trying to get pH and TA down. Over the week I’ve incrementally adding now 1 gal muriatic acid and 1 gallon of stabilizer. Yesterday I added the stabilizer and 2/3 gal muriatic acid through out the day.

This mornings results attached in file as well as picture of the pool. Seems like it’s impossible to get my pH to do anything.

Your high TA is keeping your pH high.

The acid you added lowered your TA by 50 ppm.

Keep it up and your pH will get into the 7's once you get your TA below 100 and towards 60. It will take a while.

Stay the course.
