Hello everyone,

We bought a new P-R406A-EP-C propane pool heater to replace the old one which failed after 15y....Installed in the same location/connection etc, called the gas company, they reconnected the propane/check pressure but it wont lit. This is basically what happens:

-Pumps are ON and water flowing
-Propane is turned on
-Gas valve is switched to ON.
-Power is ON, pool selected
-Set the temp above current displayed
-We hear the spark for 90sec or so, and then it goes in ignition lockout.

What can be the cause, this is the digital model with honeywell gas valve, not sure where to check the pilot etc...
This is a brand new model replacing the exact same model.

Please help.
Thanks!

You don't have a pilot with the digital model. You have self lighting burners with an igniter.

How many times have you tried to cycle the heater and get it to run? When you open up the gas line you get air in the gas line that needs to be purged before gas gets to the burners. This can take 20 or 30 cycles.

Propane is heavier than NG when its in gas form and it likes to sink to the floor and pool, making for some lively outcomes if it happens to pool in the right place. The designers at Raypak found a way around this. The system will only try to light one time before it locks out, instead of the three tries for NG.

This one try only before lockout means it takes many more cycles to purge air in the gas line.
