Brand new pump intermittently tripping breaker

I have a five month old Pentair whisperflo vst that trips the breaker about once a month. Replaced the breaker but still trips. Does not happen when raining, during start up, or any particular time. Installer came out and said they cant find anything wrong but all he did was run it at high rpms which i had already done. Can a computer be plugging in to it to see whats wrong or at least show that it has been tripping? It looks like there is an external port for this? Any help would be appreciated because my installer, Yearround Pool cant fix it and will not replace it. Also charged me $207 for the tech to come out and run it at high rpms then leave ten minutes later.

Welcome to TFP.

Is the GFCI breaker a Pentair PA220GF or Siemans QF220AP?

Harmonics from the variable frequency drive pumps can cause false GFCI trips. Pentair PA220GF is a 20A 240V GFCI breaker that GFCI trips at 6ma. The PA220GF is supposed to be less sensitive to false GCFI trips from VS pumps.

The PA220GF is a relabeled Siemens CB (QF220AP). Siemens added additional shielding to help resist false trips. Some say Pentair may have additional quality control and selects breakers less susceptible to false GFCI trips.

Thanks for sending back. It’s actually a SquareD QO 2 pole 20 gfci breaker which is one of the best out there in my opinion. Do you think it could be harmonics with SquareD QO?
Yup.

Do you know what kind of breaker Pentair recommends to avoid this issue?

Forget that, I see it in your response. I’m sure that breaker won’t fit in my SquareD panel, right?

I don't know what breaker compatibility the label on your panel states.

Usually SquareD QO is exclusive. Pentair has been a huge disappointment in all aspects in regards to my pool. This pump was a replacement under warranty of the first pump which didn’t last two years. One of the three Pentair Globrite lights in my pool burned out in a 1 1/2 years, out of warranty. And now this, unbelievable.

You could say SquareD QO is a disappointment in their lack of interoperability with other vendors breakers.
