My sand filter discharges from the top. To make the water flow up through the cell will mean a huge change in my plan, another trip to the hardware store and probably moving the whole system to a bigger shed!! Think some more my friend before I start gluing🤪🤪. Is this necessary?
 
Thank you. The manual says to place the cord side of the cell as the inlet side, and then they offer a "vertical installation kit" that places the water moving up, but I am not real sure why you would need the water moving up. I assumed that was just a way to save horizontal space in a previously installed system?
 
Ok,.. really?? Is there a trick to opening the cover on the control panel? I can’t get it to open without prying it with a screwdriver!!
 
The flow switch should be in a water moving up area if installed vertically. If installed as per your picture, it can fail close and cause an explosion risk. Not likely if you are making sure your SWCG is not powered when the pump is not running.

You could install the SWCG vertically and the flow switch elsewhere in the horizontal.

Are you talking about the entire cover, as if you were trying to reconfigure the jumper terminals for 120 versus 240 voltage?
 
The clear cover is just a friction fit (on the sides), stick your fingers in the lid gap and give it a quick tug, it'll open. Maybe brace the top of the unit with your hand to make it easier. I am tempted to install a bracket on the bottom though, I'm always lifting it up and have almost popped it off the French cleat a couple times. The more I open it, the easier it goes though.
 
On mine, when I pull the cover to open it, I tend to pull a little to the left and it comes off fairly easy. I agree with Marty, I would install your cell like in your first pic with the cell on the vertical leg and the flow switch on the horizontal leg to avoid the chance of gravity closing the flow switch when the pump is off. Just make sure you have enough straight pipe. I doubt you need the full 12" they suggest in the directions. I guarantee you there isn't 12" with the vertical install kit. I would avoid using that at all costs unless space is an issue. That's not the case though for your install.
 
Oh my,.. ughhhh, so, I ran out of vertical room, had to move that very heavy sand filter out. Placed the whole thing on concrete pavers, then had to man handle the darn thing back on the stand! I just barely have enough room after re- cutting every piece I could spare😡😡
I found this in my manual,.. I am getting ready to hook everything up. My swg is on a separate timer and only runs a fraction of the time my pump is on. If it works when I’m done, it’s staying put!

I don't think it matters. If it can horizontal or vertical, it can be at an angle as well. The cell will be full of water. The important thing is proper orientation (cord end first).
