Bought a Pool and it came with a house.

Same here Kim. I'm very interested to know if it helps too.
Apparently he is very sensitive to either the pH, or the chlorine because he said his eyes have issues even from just shower water.

I know when it comes to body pH there is a very fine line between too acidic, and just right. (I was in renal tubular acidosis not too long ago, caused by a new medication I was placed on. The acidosis resulted in severe body pain and burning, weakness, swelling, and burning urination, then within just a couple days of drinking 1TBS of diluted raw apple cider vinegar daily-(Yuck by the way), my urine pH returned to normal, the body swelling, and other symptoms all quickly subsided.

pH is a very weird little thing, and sometimes just a slight change can make a very significant difference. Have a nice night. :)

I can report that after increasing the PH and then swimming for quite some with eyes open, zero burning and no redness at all. I will run tests in a little bit and report back. But my eyes really like the higher PH.

You called it Cracker, PH spot on 7.5, well as spot on as you can get with this test.
FC 8
CC 0
PH 7.5
I really could tell a difference with the PH, no burning, no red eyes, significant difference.
Cracker called it perfectly on the PH change so I am feeling comfortable that I have the gallons correct at 30k gallons.
For another test, my target FC is 9, I am at 8. Pool math says to add 44 0z of 8.25 bleach to get it up to 9. I am going to give it a whirl and see what happens.

Hi Mark,

I'm so glad the change has solved your eye issues because there's nothing worse than trying to enjoy a swim when your eyes are on fire.

As far as the pH level, LOL don't forget the 1/2 because even though the test doesn't pick up half points on pH it's in there too. So you are at 7.5 and 1/2 LOL. (So yes I'd say that pH of 7.6ppm or close to it is Your ideal range). I also think your gallons are in correctly.

Yelp, 44oz of 8.25% bleach should raise your FC from 8ppm to 9 ppm if your gallons are correct, which I suspect they are, but we will soon see. I'm glad I was able to help. Have a nice night. :)

It worked perfectly, 44 0z now at 9. Got to love it when it all comes together.

Now to get my trippers tomorrow and see if I can get the pump on a regular schedule. I have an Intermatic timer but no trippers, and no labels on what exact model it is. So ordered a couple of different kinds and will see what works.

I did run Astro tonight (Nautilus) and he didn't pick up much at all. A little sand, but maybe just a teaspoon. Will have to see what it does next time.

Thanks all, have a good evening.

Post a pic and we will be happy to help. One thing I found when I got my trippers was that they all worked fine. Supposedly, only one set was the 'right' one but they all worked fine. I now have mine doing two cycles of around four hours. In the morning as I'm getting ready to leave and then when I get home.

Will post a pic first thing tomorrow. That would be great if both sets worked, that's what I would like to do, run it a couple of hours in the morning and then a couple of hours in the evening.

These are the ones I am supposed to get tomorrow. Got to love Prime.

The other set I am not supposed to get until end of next next week, I really cant tell the difference.

Just a FYI if there is ever a next time, you might want to check your local Home Depot for those trippers. I just bought a package of Intermatic trippers from Home Depot for 3 bucks. It had 2 sets in it.

Edit.....

Actually if you click on your second link and look down in the "Customers Also Bought" section, the second item listed there is exactly what I got at Home Depot.

Getting kind of boring now, test results for tonight.
FC 8.5 (Hopefully I wont have to slam anytime soon, I am loving this high CYA right now :) I went ahead and added 44 oz of bleach knowing I will need to bump it up more while we are away this weekend.
CC 0 Probably going to stop doing this test daily, maybe once a week?
PH 7.5
So I think I am staying pretty balanced.
Got the trippers in for the timer, got two off trippers, and one on for one model and one on for a different model. Not knowing what model I have, I put them all on. One to come on at 4 PM and off at 6PM. That one worked. I did another to come on at 8AM and off at 10AM, we will see tomorrow if that one works.

Two things I am struggling with:
1. Have a bath tub ring on the fiberglass steps. Scrubbed them Saturday with magic eraser, not much of a dent in the stain. Scrubbed on it again with magic eraser and scrub brush, might have lightened up a little but not much. What are my other options to clean this.
2. On the coping, where the pieces join, there is pretty heavy staining where the pieces join, it is kind of reddish. We have a lot of red clay here and it looks like where it has seeped through and stained the coping. Killed a magic eraser on this and got some improvement, used a tooth brush and scrub brush on it too. What are my other options.?
Thanks everyone, greatly appreciate the help.

Hi Mark,
Yes, everything looks to be balanced and holding well. I'm so glad to hear it.

Try to determine what you are dealing with stain wise. Are the stains inorganic, or organic in nature?

To determine this 1st wet a puck, hold it on the stain for approx. 1 min, if it lightens the stain your stain is organic. Just continue to use the puck(s) to remove them.

If, however, The puck doesn't lighten the stain then it is most likely inorganic in nature-(most likely caused by metals, usually Iron).

So in that case, if the puck doesn't help then buy a big inexpensive bottle of Vitamin C tablets ( which are Ascorbic acid), leave it whole or crush one and place it on the stain and hold it there for about a min. Hopefully it Will lighten the stain, and remove it with some scrubbing. For convenience, you can place a bunch of Vit C in a sock, and either leave them whole, or slightly crush them with a hammer to use to scrub with.

If neither of these options remove your stains then let us know, and we'll try to come up with another solution to determine what the stains are from, and what needs to be used to get rid of them.

:) I'm glad the trippers are working that will help while you are away.

I hope this helps. Have a Nice night. :)

Back from our trip and the pool stayed in good shape. Had some leaves to vacuum out and a full skimmer basket but other then that looks good.
Pool stayed stable. This evening the results were
FC 9.5
CC 0
PH 7.5
TA 90
I didn't add any bleach tonight, will let it drop down tomorrow and my plan is to test in the evening and to keep it at 9.5 going into the night. In theory then the next evening it should drop below 8 based on current consumption rates.
I am also thinking to add a little DE to the filter this weekend, I think there may be just a little more I can get out of it from a clarity perspective.
Thanks everyone.

Welcome Back mark,

I'm glad the numbers held well. They all look good.

Your plan sounds good. :)

The last CYA I saw for you was 80ppm is that correct?

Yes, the DE may help just monitor your pressures closely because they can rise very quickly, like I mentioned before, Mine did and I had to quickly backwash the DE back out and start again because 1/4 cup to start was too much for my sand filter.

Here's the adding DE to a sand filter link if you need it. http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/133-add-de-to-a-sand-filter

Also if you don't still have something in your skimmer basket like a knee high panty hose, or a skimmer sock, that will also help a lot in filtering out those small particles too.

Did the pucks, or the Vit C remove the stains from the pool?

Anyway I'm glad you made it back safely. Have a wonderful night. :)

Yep, assuming CYA is still at 80, nothing has happened to change it. I think I am going to figure out how much I can drain and then refill in 8 hours, then just plan on doing that once or twice a week. By next spring I should have it down.
I don't have anything on my skimmer right now, I need to get some skimmers socks, I saw that Lowes has them cheap.
I haven't tried to puck or vitamin C yet, when I was swimming Friday I did look at the reddish color on the coping, I can scrape it off with my fingernail so maybe need to take a plastic scrubby thing and see how that works.
Have a good one.

I did get some skimmer socks at Lowe's to try them because I'd only used the knee highs, and I really like them, but either one works well.

I think I got a 3 pack for like 5.95 or something like that. I rinse mine out, and reuse them, although the pack says disposable. They are made really well and work well for reuse.

One thing on using them, or a knee high, etc. is to always remember to remove them from the skimmer basket Before you shut the pump off because those tiny particles, gnats, etc. go everywhere, and float back into the pool once the pump is turned off. I don't know what type of skimmer you have, but I have the regular side of the pool skimmer with the weir door, but if you have the in ground type skimmer that wouldn't be an issue for you. Have a nice night. :)

Pretty boring here. Ran all my tests today, everything is holding stable, lose 1 ppm chlorine everyday, add 44 oz of bleach everyday... alls good. So I did get the socks at lowes, put one on, and went to mow the yard. Last time I mowed, had grass in the pool and spent an hour scooping it out. This time I said, going to use the push mower with the bagger, that will do the trick. Well, no grass in the pool, but the top of the pool and the skimmer sock was loaded with dirt. Need to refine my mowing strategy. :( Starting to think about cooler weather now, I am not planning on closing the pool, need to research more my strategy on avoiding frozen pipes.

Same here the temperature has dropped a lot here today and Fall is in the air, so it will be closing time soon here too. Here is a link that might help on your closing: I don't have an IG so I remove all mine lines so if you have an questions that the link does answer we can find someone with an IG pool who blows out their lines to assist you, if needed. http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/146-closing-an-in-ground-pool

Those skimmer socks or whatever is used on there captures a lot of stuff. Even when we've not mowed or anything I still end up with a lot of dirt, bugs, etc. in mine too. You won't have to worry about mowing much longer this year cause that too is about over. I'm having some roof work done next month and I can just imagine what it's going to put into the pool. Hopefully the cover will be on before then. Have a nice night :)
