Bluestone coping, Sharpness of regular VS Bullnose

I am building a 20x 50 gunite. It is currently designed with a 2" bluestone coping with the straight/regular cut. It seems to me that it might have a sharp and uncomfortable edge. We have a 7x7 spa inside one corner of the pool. This particularly concerns me because when you are in the spa, your back will be leaning right into the bluestone edge. I am considering using bullnose bluestone to round all the edges. Only problem with that is that I feel that my rectangle pool, and modern farmhouse home is also very straight and angular, will not look right. Bullnose looks a bit classic and traditional. And its also a large cost increase to switch to bullnose.

I would love to know how those with regular straight edge stone coping manage, and if they think using bullnose would help in terms of comfort. I know that from a safety perspective, bullnose would have to better if your were to bang your head.

I have a renovation coming up, with sharp bluestone coping & inside 90s. We are going to buzz it with diamond blades..

This is being done for safety.. if I can dig up a photo I’ll post it, scary as is.

Bullnose is with the money & safety.. think of that 90 on a family members head.

We have precast concrete coping with straight edge sides, as well as a 7x7 spa on one end, at the same level as the pool. We absolutely love it, both aesthetically and functionally. It looks much better than bullnose, and fits our modern, geometric home, which sounds more like what you’re going for.

We haven’t experienced any discomfort with the straight edge, nor have we had complaints from any of our guests! In fact, two of our neighbors have changed their pool plans since seeing ours!

hope that helps!

I have bluestone coping and have no idea what you are talking about. There is no sharp edges. The natural look is great. See my sigline for more pics.
