Black Algae, Wire Brush, New Plaster

Potential path for consideration: (thoughts?)
1. Order CYA standard and any needed testing chems
2. Given your pool's fast FC loss and high PH rise - perhaps off SWG and pause bleach to let FC fall until under 10
3. stock up on a fresh source of bleach (golf cart pool store or another if needed/megamart) and store indoors in cool+dark
4. Once FC us under 10, adjust PH, re-test to confirm
5. SLAM, testing/adding every 30 mins until FC is the same 30 mins later, then 60 mins until it is the same, then 90, 120, etc until you've passed OCLT

on backwash cycle - especially important given commercial pool to off/backwash 2mins or until clear/off/rinse 30s or until clear/off/backwash again 30s or until clear/off/rinse again 30s or until clear/off/filter the repeated bw+r is amazingly helpful in a proper cleaning

exciting!!! the bucket v pool rivalry is renewed for something other than leak detection! exciting!!!!

Thank you Yak! I truly appreciate your input and everyone else's!

I'm starting to realize that during this busy season I don't have the time to properly babysit the SLAM, and it's clear there's something in there that needs attention.

If I'm abandoning this attempt, I may rather wait a month or two to just drain the darn thing and start over. I can't keep wasting bleach to reproducing algae.

TDS is pool store mumbo jumbo. The pool store's default answer to a pool they can't fix with a one-time dump of chems is to drain. Draining your newly plastered pool will ruin it.
You do not need to drain your pool. TDS includes a lot of different things (calcium, salt, CYA etc) and we worry about those things individually. Mixing up PS suggestions and TFP methods do not mix.

If I took a sample of my perfect water to the PS, they would say the same thing, but guess what? I have use a SWG and my salt level contributes to my TDS. Would they tell me to drain my perfect pool, too?

Are you sure that the 12.5% bleach is actually 12.5% bleach? I don't know the ounces of your12.5% jugs, but if it hasn't lost strength, it should be increasing your FC by 8. That is a lot. Would you mind testing your FC 30 minutes after you add your next jug to make sure you are getting that increase of 8?

I bet it is! AND this is with the bigger SWG!!! I say keep the SWG at 100% and get through the heavy season. Once the season is done then I say do a deep clean of the sand maybe even go far as taking it out and putting it in a big wheel barrow or something you can really rinse it out good. When you put it back in I would pour some chlorine in with the water and let the sand mix with that good THEN back wash it REAL good to get whatever out.

I don't understand why you are still using the pool store chlorine if it has lost so much if its strength. Effectively it is half strength and equivalent to around 6%.

You can used Walmart generic plain bleach which is 8.25% and is stored in climate control and is occasionally stronger than 8.25%.
