Best Valve System for Hayward DE Filter?

I have a hayward DE4820 filter, with the push-pull-type slide valve.



If I was going to replace the valve, would it be better to replace it with the multiport valve or another slide valve of the same type?

I vote multiport. Waste and recirculate functions are useful.

There are four valves available for the Hayward DE filter

SP0710XR50 1 1/5" threaded ports. 6 position multiport
SP0715XR50 2" threaded ports 6 position multiport
SP0740DE 2" glue in soc ports. 4 position Filter, Backwash, vacuum to waste and bypass.
SP0410X502S 2" slide valve glue in soc ports. 2 position, filter and backwash.

What the 6 position adds over the 4 position is the closed and rinse position. Closed is used many times for winterizing while the rinse position is great for sand filters after backwashing.

I see you live in CA, I would say for multiport the SP0740DE would be the best. Let's see what other say.
