you will get 1 with the test kit and one with the SpeedStir. But, they are different. So, if you order more make sure you get the Taylor tube that works with the SpeedStir.
To clarify, the TF-100 kit comes with two non-taylor cylinders. One of those is marked "chlorine Only" because, over a long period, you will get a dark residue film that takes a bit of muriatic to clear off. The other is for all the other tests and it stays clean if you rinse.
The Speedstir comes with a Taylor cylinder and the magnet fits in there just right and spins pretty effectively. The two non-Taylor cylinders are just a FRACTION wider but just enough so the magnet is really sloppy in there and doesn't work well.

No, you do not NEED any additional cylinders. Some folks like spares so you can get them if you decide. I still have my original cylinders.
Got my TF100 XL, magnetic stirrer and extra pill ordered now. I will have the kit about a month before I have my pool..............
You will soon have a sore shoulder from reaching around to pat yourself on the back!
VERY nice work!!! You can start right away by testing your fill water. That'll get you used to the kit and help you understand what changes you will have as you add water.

My fill water has to be trucked in. It will be on standby until the liner goes in and they will start bringing 5000 gallon at a time. There will be just a little left over on the fourth truck. The water is being pumped from the fire hydrants at the local fire station so I assume it will be chlorinated, because it should be hooked into the city water supply. I never thought to ask!
So if I'm building a chlorine pool, I should get the tft 100, speed stir, chlorine cylinder, and 3 of the others. Anything else I need? How do you become a Tft supporter?

You only need the TF-100. Its all contained and easy to use.....everything else you mention is just stuff to make it even faster/easier/more fun.

The basic TF-100 has everything you NEED to do the testing, the XL option gives you more of the test reagents you use the most when dealing with a pool that has algae problems already, and is a nice addition if you are one of those people that are paranoid about your chlorine levels and want to test often, but is not essential.
The Speedstir is nice as it lets you run the tests faster and without all that hand swirling, this is particularly nice on the CH test where you may be counting 25-50 drops swirling after each one (depending on your water supply and type of pool finish, it helps if you will fill out your signature with type of pool and equipment). I don't think anyone has ever regretted buying it, particularly if they upgraded to it after doing the tests by hand for a while, think of it like power steering and power brakes on a car, not needed, but certainly nice to have.
There is also the sample sizer, which only works with the Taylor branded tubes, which is another nice addition, but one that I feel is less bang for the buck than the Speedstir
