As the title says, I have to physically hold the hose on the backwash nozzle otherwise the pressure of the water violently builds up and shoots the hose off. I've never seen this issue before.

Pressure in the filter gets up to 18-20 consistently. Can't figure out how to lower it. But I also have an air leak that I thought I fixed previously, but apparently it's still happening.

I replaced the pump basket seal/gasket already and cleaned/refilled the DE filter a couple of days ago. Not much has gone in the skimmers since, and i just backwashed and not much came out in terms of debris or DE. I was kind of surprised.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I've always used a hose clamp to keep the backwash hose on.

As for fast pressure rise and not much in the backwash, when's the last time you opened the filter up and did a thorough cleaning? DE never rinses off 100%, and the residual can just build and build until you end up with

HOLY  That looks a hundred times worse than pulling a hair wookie out of a drain. If I show that to my wife then I'll never win the shower drain argument.

I actually stripped the filter down and cleaned/hosed off all of the grids last Wed or Thurs I forget. So less than a week. I put it back together and thats was fixed my skimmer pressure/suction issue at the time. So I know its not that mucked up. There wasn't nearly as much surface debris this past week. I've checked the skimmers twice a day and skimmed the surface myself.

What kind of hose do you have on there? One of those flat blue hoses for pools, or some other hose??

Maddie :flower:

Yep, one of those flat plastic ones. But its no different than what I always saw my dad use or what the PS used whenever they serviced it. So something is still going on I feel.

Okay, so it's not a crusted grid... does the gauge drop back to zero when the pump is off? If it reads 2 psi, it's not just a matter of subtracting two from whatever it reads. the mechanism is busted and the gauge needs to be replaced.

Yep, drops back to zero. I feel as if I'm constantly bleeding the air valve also. Something is going on with the system.

I replaced the gasket and cleaned the grids and that solved my priming/pressure issue last week. But now I get home and the pump is running but no water movement. Keeps losing its prime again. I'm having them come take a look on Wednesday unfortunately.
