Backfill Blocks for Uprights

Leveling completion is finally in sight!

I have my 4” blocks sunk and leveled within +-1/8“. I need to level a bit where the bottom rail will be, but that should be easy with all the dirt I now have to add and tamp down.

My question is, since I had a lot of rocks/pebbles in my soil it was impossible to just dig out a tidy rectangle for my blocks. I now need to backfill around the blocks. I used 1”+ of stone dust under the blocks, should I backfill with stone dust or just dirt or both?

I don't think it matters which you use.

Either or both is fine. Just try to tamp around them the best you can without disturbing your blocks so the loose material will not get soggy.
