Im about to embark on my DIY install of a 16x38 fiberglass pool with a cover pools autocover. Im told a SWG is the most damaging of the types of chemistry you can run. My former builder(before I abandoned him) was selling me a frog mineral system. According to cover pools, I would still need to use chlorine as my main sanitizer. Is there a better system out there? I loved my last SWG pool but Im sold on the autocover also. Thoughts?

SWG isn't any more harmful for autocover than any other sort of pool. People have been using it for years and years without adverse effects.

Mineral systems will add metals to your pool, which can stain and cause hair to change funky colors.

We can't explain why someone else is making unsupported claims.

There are many folks here using a SWG and an autocover very successfully.

A SWG just generates the chlorine your pool needs on site. You can get your chlorine into your pool in a few ways and the SWG is one of them.

That claim was made by the rep from cover safe. Id rather go SWG as Im more experienced in it. Thanks

I think their claim comes from using aluminum rails and steel fasteners that are not designed to work in saline waters. If you do install the auto cover look to see if stainless steel tracks are possible (304/304L or, even better, 316/316L stainless). If aluminum tracks are the only option then make sure they are only installed using stainless steel hardware AND add a magnesium (better than zinc) sacrificial anode connected to the track bonding wire. Make sure the anode is properly bagged and buried in moist soil. There’s lots of info online on how to bag and bury an anode for optimal protection.
