1. Flexible
2. Durable
3. Can overlay on concrete as thin as 3/4 inch.
4. Paintable
5. Affordable
6. Can stamp patterns into it, and paint it however you like
7. Am I crazy?

Yes know it can be hot, can kool deck over it.

From a guy who paved roads for 7 years, this is not a good idea at all ... blacktop will always be hot even if you seal it -- think a city tennis court, all of which are sealed blacktop. It's messy and requires heavy equipment to put down, which could crack your plumbing, and has to be laid at 250-300 degrees, which could melt your skimmers. If you're overlaying concrete you'll develop a crack at every expansion joint. Just not a good idea.

As an aside, my dad worked in blacktop all his life, and as a kid, I would always ask him to build us a blacktop pool. I mean, if they could make a pool out of concrete, why not asphalt?
