Ascorbic Acid Treatment filter question

As stated in the AA guideline - for cartridge filter it is best to remove the filter cartridge. So if you do not have a MPV on your DE filter you could remove all of the filter grids and put them back when AA completed. Then add DE as you would do after cleaning the grids.

Another option - if you have a bypass for your filter (most do not) you could do that.

Before attempting the AA treatment, I did the TriChlor tab test on my stains and no change in the stains as I suspected because they were were from a metal washer was dropped by the installers and left at the bottom of the pool. I then tried the Vitamin C in a white sock/sleeve and the stain did not lift and the area around the rust stain turned black instead. Our city water per report is 0.242 ppm of Copper and Lead at 1.7 ppb. The trim around the drain is beginning to take on a 'iced tea' tint as well as the main drains. All water test have been in the normal range. Is an acid wash my only option to rid the stains?

Thanks for tips. Today I noticed the black stains from my Vitamin C test area are gone but the 'rust' stain from the metal washer is still there. Thoughts?? other than doing the Stain ID kit (which doesn't get favorable reviews regarding accuracy) TIA
