Aqualink RS - I hear the relay "click", but filter pump will not turn on

Hello All,

First time poster. I've read an hours worth of posts and could not find the specific issue i am having posted...

During the summer last year, I came into the backyard and could not hear the filter pump going although it was to be running. Checked the panel and it was turned on, yet no action. I tried to find voltage on the pump but was unsuccessful (did not look through guides at the time, i am fairly handy). Then I thought, I have a waterfall pump, let me rewire the filter pump to the waterfall pump and see if that starts the pump...rewired, turned on, and it worked. Since then, I left it wired like that with the intent of doing more troubleshooting through the summer, but got busy. I reprogrammed the scheduling to include the "waterfall" (now swapped for the filter pump) which is fine for the automation, but not as great when my family wants to use the pool as they have to turn things on and off in a certain order so not to damage the heater during cooldown etc...it leaves me quite anxious.

It would appear the pump itself, and the wiring to the pump are fine. Automation works otherwise in the reconfigured manner, so no the timer?

So, thoughts on what I should check? Would this be an issue with the Filter relay?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to TFP.

Sounds like you have a bad relay.

Use your multimeter in ohm/continuity mode and check if you have continuity 0 ohms between LINE and LOAD screws when the filter pump relay clicks closed. It will stay open if the rally is bad.

All of the newer relays used by Jandy, Hayward, Pentair are nominally 24vdc and are completely interchangeable. The one marketed for Hayward is half the price of the one that has Jandy on it on Amazon. Or look up this, by Omron, the company that likely makes them for all the companies mentioned (about $25.00) . The Omron brand was available at wholesale until the big three said they would pull their product if the wholesalers continued to offer them.

Why didn’t you plug in the waterfall relay to the filter/pump socket on the board when you rewired things? Then the system will work as designed for your family.
