I was thisclose to telling somebody off today wearing their mask around their chin. I'm sure he was a special snowflake and the *only* one who doesn't like them.

My 13 year old son had a 101.6 fever on Monday morning. Tested Monday afternoon. Positive results came back Tuesday. Kid had head ache and dizziness for a few hours Tuesday. Me, wife and 12 year old brother all negative.

I did not have covid but I did have complications 2 weeks after abdominal surgery recently when my intestines pretty much shut down. Due to this I started running a fever on a Saturday night. Called my doctor's office Sunday morning and the doctor on call didn't want me going to the ER and recommended Milk of Magnesia at regular intervals. The M of M gave me dry heaves which feel wonderful with a swollen, still has suture glue on it abdomen. Waited for my regular oncologist to contact me Monday. She never called so I called back Tuesday, still running fever, still in pain, still no intestinal output. I tried getting appointments at walk in clinics but when you have a fever you can't get past the screening process. The ER doesn't want to see you either, unless you have trouble breathing. Dr finally calls back, doesn't want me to come in but calls in a prescription for Bactrim as she thinks I have an infection from the surgery. I took the full 5 day course and ran fever the whole time, actually feeling a little worse every day. The fourth day I looked up the side effects of this stuff. One of them is persistent fever. Great. This was a twice a day medication and due to the timing of getting the prescription filled, my last dose was a morning dose. Still had fever that morning. Next day no fever and it did not come back. Other symptoms are slowly subsiding, but I'm convinced I had a partial intestinal blockage that is not quite resolved. I wanted a physical examination to make sure everything is healing like it should, but Dr doesn't want to see me for 6 months.
The point of all this is the problems caused by covid that have nothing to due with you having the disease. Fears of covid shut down a lot of doctor's offices and they were only seeing virtual patients. When I started having symptoms that sent me to the doctor pre-surgery, I had to do a phone visit with my doctor, and she was concerned enough to arrange for a specialist to examine me in person. I had to fill out questionnaires and fever checks to get in the building and another set of questionnaires and fever check to enter the doctor's office. I needed a biopsy which took time to arrange. The biopsy came back positive and I needed surgery and the time frame from first doctor visit to surgery was 6 months. In non-covid times this would have occurred within a 2 week time span.
Lots of things can make you run a fever, and shortly after major surgery you would think they would want to do a physical examination. If this had been a full instestinal blockage caused by adhesions it could have been fatal. People are out there not able to see doctors when they need to and serious medical issues are not being discovered in their early stages. I agree that covid precautions are necessary, but there needs to be a way that people who are ill may be seen in a timely manner, especially when their symptoms are not mainly covid related.

Zea! That is unreal and so wrong on so many levels! In what world do you wait 6 MONTHS to do a recheck of major surgery???? THEN add to that you were having problems!! NOPE, NOPE, NOPE! I am so sorry you went through this and hope things are moving up now.

I have been battling with bureaucracies from the courts, healthcare and governmental agencies all year that all have yet another excuse to give me bad service... "Oh, Sorry, we couldn't process your [fill in the blank] due to COVID"... Lets see the blank includes so far:

There are very likely there are different strains, but they seemed to be likely distributed regionally. You have probably read the theory of the east coast vs west coast strain. As people move around the country the strains mix. I don't think enough time as passed to mix the populations enough to mix the strains. I'm really looking forward to the studies that can track the DNA of this beast as it propagated through the nation, but that will take a while. FLA gets lots of travelers but probably is hit with predominately the same strain, especially in the same household, chances are you shared it with each other, statically speaking. What you are experiencing is the individual response to the virus. And they (the clinicians) are still trying to sort how to identify how each group responds to this thing. Anecdotally, I hear your story over and over... my wife got something that really seams like I got the 'VID, but I'm not showing symptoms or they are really mild.. or vice-a-versa. And testing seems to be hit or miss, especially with the quick and dirty one.
There have been some quick studies about the retention of the virus on surfaces and clothing. Its on the order of hours but it seems to be pretty diluted on most surfaces unless an infected someone coughed into your sleeve and then you wiped your nose with it... Nevertheless... It is never a comfortable feeling. On days where I have to visit multiple client locations I will head to the shower when I get home anyway. many of my regular clients will say.. "Hey you don't need to wear your mask here" But they are assuming I am a part of their bubble. I can't guarantee what the status of each bubble is as I go from client to client, so I wear my mask at each client stop to protect myself and them. I don't want to be THAT vector. .. Oh looks it typhoid guzzy!

Sorry to hear the news! Initially, I wasn't too concerned about getting it (and as a matter of fact, I almost *wished* I got it so I could move on) but then I thought about chicken pox. Some of the older members probably remember getting that as a child. It wasn't too bad (and I don't think it killed too many people) just some flu like symptoms and bad itching for a few days. No big deal, right? Well...maybe. My wife, mother and sister-in-law have to deal with Shingles on occasion (both the wife and sister in law are too young for the vaccine and it's been ineffective for my mother) and it seems like a miserable, MISERABLE thing to deal with. The correlation between the "not so bad chicken pox" and the "holy Crud, shingles sucks!!!" took a little while to figure out and scientists still aren't sure how it's activated.
So, I have new thoughts on the 'rona; I don't think we know enough about it for me to be so casual about it. I think back to the 80s when AIDs was becoming a very big problem; there was so much misunderstanding about it...well, most of us know of the stories and so much of what we thought was proven to be inaccurate. I know we have come a long way since the 80s when it comes to science, but I don't think we are *that* smart about things.

Much is not understood about the long term effects of Covid-19. Knowledge and treatments and effects of the virus will evolve for years. No one knows what direction the virus may evolve. It may burn out and disappear or be a chronic problem for a long time. Better to be safe then sorry.

You are spot on. It seems like people have lost all common sense and just use the "Due to COVID" excuse.
For example, my son's chemistry class is not allowed to do labs "due to COVID" and has to watch a youtube video of someone else doing a lab. Their excuse is that they cannot sanitize all of the beakers and other equipment between classes.
We asked the teacher if they were required to sanitize the door knob to the classroom or the student's desks in between classes, and her answer was no. I think she did agree with us, and pointed us to school district administration, who cited some international guideline against doing labs in classrooms. So the kiddos lose out on a learning opportunity "due to COVID", yet their risk would not be increased by doing the labs vs sitting at their desks.
Another one was at the high school football game the other day. We volunteer at the concession stands as it raises money for the band. After the halftime performance, we noticed not a single band kid came to the concession stands. The band director wouldn't let them go, even in small groups, "due to COVID". The ironic thing was that earlier in the day he was begging parents to work the concession stands. Also keep in mind that we are all there to watch a school sponsored sporting event where the actual goal of the game is to not social distance (at least when you are on defense).
We have to be smart about COVID, but we cant just turn our brains off and use the "Due to COVID" excuse for everything.
What I find interesting is they (who are they?) have not done ANY contact tracing with me or hubby.
Oh I am sure I "gave" it to him as he about 3 days behind me with his onset and how he is presenting. We have not bothered getting him tested.......both going to quarantine as WE care about other people and do NOT want to take the chance they will react different than we have to this mess.
I wonder if the person who infected me even knew they had it? There will be no way to really know though. All I can do is keep others safe by not going near them!Yeah everyone is pulling the C-19 card to get out of doing their jobs in a timely manner if at all gurrrrrrrrrrrr

Probably not.. the bizarre nature of this beast is you can be contagious and not know you have it. You in turn may have passed it on to others before you started showing symptoms. I know people that have tested positive have done there own contact tracing.. they call up anyone they had contact with in that 10 day windows and tell them.. hey you might want to be aware.

Wifey just had a test (negative) and they automatically did the finger prick test for antibodies (also negative).
We have a large population at work. We've been open the whole time. About 30% of the staff worked from home for about 2 months. Have only had a handful of cases. But some of our other US locations have had dozens. We've seen very little spread at work. Most, as best we can tell, is from outside of work gatherings. However, we are very proactive at our facilities regarding precautions, quarantining and isolation. Much more so, I suspect, than people are outside of work.

There’s a guy that works for my husband’s company (contractor) & he is on the st.jude job. They test every one there every 2 weeks. He has tested positive 3 times & had to quarantine for 14 days each time (w/pay luckily). He has never been ill. Its all quite strange.

I was exposed by my dentist, who is also my friend, about a month ago. He called me and told me -- I scheduled an appt at CVS the following day. It's the drive-thru, self test. The guy tell me to stick in my nose until I feel resistance. I tell him "I feel resistance, now!" I had to do both barrels. The second I shoved a little too hard -- I couldn't really tell if I was doing it right on the first nostril. My right was a little tender for a couple days. Two days later, I got the negative result on my phone.
