I've noticed some sand in my skimmer basket. I discovered this is from ants and some have wings getting into the skimmer from under the surrounding concrete deck. There skimmer appears to be more than one piece. It appears an upper piece slides over a lower piece as part of assembly. There are vertical slits in the skimmer assembly at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. There is also a small gap in one area running from 3 to 6 o'clock positions on the circumference. Sand is coming in through one or more of those ares., and I know the sand is from ants because I see ants in the skimmer water in the morning after the pump was turned off all night. Any thoughts on how to kill the ants? Any comment on whether I can caulk the gaps and if yes what kind of caulk to use. These gaps are all above the water line. Thank you for any suggestions.
