Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

there, there, there, lil missy you just go sit over there by that pile of spud that wants peeled and you just let us men folks make them big ole decisions sos that yer purty lil head won't hurt none......
Really Suz, its your pool, you are the one to live with it after all is said and done, no hugs for you, maybe a swift kick

Everyone : Thank you all so very much! I am mellowing, finally. I will thank you later individually when I've fully recovered.

Ernie! You are the reason, I've set the glass down to reply now rather than later. OMG! Tears of hysterical laughter are rolling down my cheeks! I swear... My dad, gone 22 years now, sent those very words through you to me! I heard his voice with each word you wrote.

Dad always said, "Suzy-q, you're no Southern Belle. You're a Texan and don't you ever forget it!" He meant just what you said.

So thanks, Ernie, for the reminder!!

No more southern belle #@$& from me. Suz is back!! Hugs for all of you.

Yikes! Haha, what a day. - meeting and discussing all our plans is good and bad. Sounds like you truly know what you want which is so important and is certainly a feat in and of itself. Of course sometimes it helps to get another opinion bc they see something we are missing.

It's all a big game of learning and listening and educating yourself and you are ahead of the game on all fronts so trust yourself, sit back and dream of the days you will sip a lime-a-rita, blast some luke Bryan appreciating all your hard work!

Sorry I improvised with my own personal drinks and music [emoji1][emoji1]

You are much more prepared then I am. At least you have sketches and you have a plan forward. I just put together what I thought would look good. I hope what I picked does come together ok. Kelly said its gonna look fantastic but he may also be telling me this like he was telling you just to make us keep quite. I agree, he does like to talk and sometimes it's hard to get a word in the conversation. I can only imagine what my neighbors think when they hear is loud voice carry across to the next house. Lol-... Just relax, Soon you will be floating and having a umbrella drink and loving it..

I can tell you this- that man knows his stuff and is very experienced in pool building.

Thanks, Paris! It was funny, I was just beginning to respond to you this morning when Kelly drove up! The next thing I knew, it was 4 hours later! But we did cover a lot. I guess you understand what I mean when I say our meetings could almost be cut in half if it weren't for his phones ringing and his hopping from topic to topic. But I wouldn't trade him for anything; I know he's a fabulous builder.

He mentioned a gorgeous pool in Montgomery County using the same glass tile as mine. (not sure I got through to him that we are using different colors) He did tell me that pool (yours) is going to be one of his most fabulous pools. So I think he was sincere with you.

Then I mentioned your name, and he looked shocked! I told him that all of us (his customers) were networking. I was kidding, but he missed the joke since he was already talking about something else.

Did they start on your glass tile today? I can't wait to see that Steel Blue glass with the Blue Granite pool! I believe it will be stunning! Take care! Suzy.

Alex has not started on the glass just yet but he told me yesterday that my job would be a 3-4 day period. I can tell you once he starts hanging the glass I will take some shots. He did tell me that he has installed this glass before several years back and he said its incredible the way the sun reflects on it.
I'm not going to rush this. I told him to take his time when installing it. I want it perfect.. He said it would be :)-

I'm all rested today, plus lo' and behold, the sun is shining!!! I even have to wear sunglasses in the house when I look out the windows!!!! Not really, but my eyes are NOT accustomed to that wonderful sunshine.

The tile guys worked last night until about 7:00, and began again this morning at 8:00. They are amazing to watch. Both men work on the measuring and cutting, but one guy (the one wearing the hat in the photos) sets the stones. I've never seen this done before so I can't compare, but he seems to be an artist with his work. With each stone he places, he wipes off any cutting dust then sets his 3 ft level across the new and previous tiles. He must do that at least 4-5 times with each new stone he places. He moves the level to every direction and then adjusts such that it looks to me he's changing the stone by only breaths of a mm. He may tap one place ever so lightly with a finger or gently tap with the butt of his hammer. He watches that level at his eye level while on his knees. OMG! The patience that man has. I've only seen him once remove a piece and start all over with the mortar and reset. Yesterday, I thought this would take weeks, but he is ever so steady with his pace that he makes very good progress.

I'm sure this is old stuff for most of you guys, but to me it's fascinating!!!

This is the first picture I took yesterday of the tile foreman, our PB, and the tile guys moving around the pool discussing each section. I was out watching and hanging on to every word.....

Here, the tile man has really just begun, so really not much to see. But like baby photos, I'm showing it to you anyway!!!!

I took this photo this morning from my bedroom window before the guys came. The pool is finally losing some of it's clunkiness or Klingon appearance. To me, it's already looking more graceful. The coping looks a bit pale now, but some of that is the stone dust. Plus, we will be sealing the travertine, so it will be a little darker. I am thrilled!!!!

It's so fun to have things moving again!!! Our PB told me to call our paver guy and tell him to look at beginning the deck work towards the end of next week. Wow, for so long we've just been waiting on the weather and the tile order, that it's as if getting back on the amusement park ride! Here we go!!! So exciting! Take care! Suz.

Sounds like a good meeting. How can you NOT have adult beverages handy? Back to Pool School for you! :-D

By the way, once you have water in your pool and you are in a floatie getting a sunburn with a cold beverage all of the mud drama rain delays will disappear instantly. Guaranteed.

Thanks Pooldv! It really was a very good meeting - and seems even better today when I'm rested!!! Sometimes you just run out of those adult beverages - think I finished them up during the last flurry of pool work (dig and gunite). Where IS that drinking section in Pool School? How could I have ever missed that?!!!!

Oh dear Suz. Sounds like you need a drink and a hug! Just try and focus on the end and the fact that you will have a great pool!!!

Thanks for the hugs! I hope you're taking notes - these days do happen. Then all our friends on TFP rally 'round and the worries float away!

I'm new hear and I have a half-created signature line, but I have been lurking a while.

Suz, I just want to give you a big hug. Your build thread has been some of the most informative and entertaining stuff I have read in a long time. I simply adore you and your pool.

I think your son and your PB feel the same way I do and they want you to be happy. Sometimes it seems like we know what is best, but remember that your PB has done this MANY times and from what you have said about him, I don't think he will steer you wrong. Sounds to me like both those men know that making decisions about stuff like this can be hard for you and they know that what you have selected is perfect, but you just needed a bit of help piecing it together.

Relax...deep breath....big sip of adult beverage....repeat. It's all going to be so beautiful when completed.

Dale

Thank you so very much, Dale! Your kind words came at the perfect time and did me so much good. Your reassurance and care mean a lot. And I love the 'repeat' instructions!!! I did the 'repeat' part a lot!!!!! Almost forgot! Welcome to TFP - so glad you're here! Is your pool to be built or already completed???? Can't wait to read/see more about it. Suz.

Breath in, breath out. Drink in and sigh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Now I know it is all better!

HUGS and lots of good wishes!

Kim

Kim, that's great! Thanks so much. I did the breathing exercise right along as I read your post - several times!!! Hugs right back! Take care. Suz.

I have another picture!!!! :bounce: I can hardly stand it!!!! :bounce: I love the waterline tile! I know, it's all just beige so far, but what can I say - I'm a beige kinda gal! And some more news.... the Shell Beach glass tiles I just ordered Monday were shipped yesterday. This is better than Amazon!!! More tomorrow! Suz.

The beiges are a little on the gray side and a bit flat looking on my monitor. They are much prettier in person.

Too funny! I just left posting on your thread! Our posts are crossing each other's!

Thank you!!! (did I tell you how excited I am!!!!!). Both came from MasterTile. The coping is Torreon Honed Classic and the tile is a porcelain, FontusBei6. (MT is very creative with their tile names....). The coping varies hugely! I have 2 sample pieces of the Torreon coping. Both are about 2 shades darker than what is on my pool. But I think it's working out great. Can't hardly write - I'm soooo giddy!!! No need for adult beverages tonight! Suz.
