Another in Texas - Cypress

The antique white is a good choice for coping. I was not a fan of darker grout - especially after they did some samples for us. I might have gone with antique white for waterline tile too - just to tie everything together.

When did they do the samples? I just found out tonight they were doing it tomorrow and I'm trying to pick from pictures online. [emoji51]

We want it to blend rather than stand out.

I would go with a darker brown like Sahara, if you are going to do a brown. However, the greys go really well, too. You really can't go wrong either way!

My husband liked the darker Sahara and Camel Buff but I was afraid they would be too dark. ☹️. We ended up choosing Light Buckskin as a compromise but I'm biting my nails over it. I wasn't able to see any pictures or sample so I have no idea how any of them actually look. [emoji51][emoji37] Seriously stressing over this one.

Light Buckskin would have been my first choose so you are DONE! Locked in and key hidden!

Stop stressing and get your phone charged up to get the pics!

LOL on the boots! Hope no critters climb into them!

Thanks! I've been stressing for the last hour on texting the builder back and switching to Camel Buff afraid the Light Buckskin will be too light. Ha! Never want to give the hubby a chance to say I told you so... Even though he's been so sweet and reassuring saying the Light Buckskin will look nice and he likes it too. Just wish I could have seen some samples first rather than choosing from a pic on the Internet. Out of all those choices Light Buckskin was really your pick, Kim? Lol

It is the one that I think blends with your tile the best so.........yeap first choose!

Now walk away from the phone...................there ya go. It is only allowed to be used as a camera today LOL

Kim:cat:

Okay okay! Lol. I have work to do anyway. Thanks Kim! Deep breath, in, out, letting the worry and stress over grout color roll away. Decision made and accepted. Phew, what problems we have! I need to pray for people stressing about how they are getting their next meal and give a whole lot of thanks for all our blessings that I'm stressing about something like grout color. That's the best perspective to have. We had a tough time making the grout decision too...in the big picture, the coloring of a few lines don't take anything away.

:thequeen: From this day forward the grout in TM's pool will be named "Kim" hehe

I have a lamp, a bench, several plasters, and now a grout named after me!

Kim:cat:

Lol. Done deal! I'm sure we'll name something else after you before it's all said and done but for now grout is fitting. After all, it holds it all together! [emoji6]

They're here! Verified that the split face for beam and columns is correct and the coping as well as the grout. Also talked to him about my step markers. PB is supposed to be here later with the waterline tile.

Carlos is lead tile guy and very nice. He said they'll be here for 3 or 4 days working and he'll let me know when they're ready for me to show them where I want my markers. He's also going to show me an example of how they cover holes in the coping pieces of travertine to see if I'm okay with them since I didn't seem to like them.

I never noticed the Light Buckskin, in fact I don't think I looked at that side of the chart!! I like it!! I can't wait to see pictures!!!
You are right about this stress being "first world" problems. In the grand scheme of eternity, these are nothing. It would probably not be so stressful if it was less permanent like a paint color that you can just paint over.

How long does the tile/coping process take on average? He's talking 3-4 days and he won't need me to show him where to put the step markers until Monday or Tuesday. My PB had said 2 days initially.

Plumbing is scheduled for right after tile/coping so if we stand a chance of my daughter from Denmark seeing this pool before she leaves we need to get on it. ☹️

Tiling / coping can take longer depending on multiple things. If gunite is not level, they need to add a levelling coat first. Then wait for it to dry. Then add water proofing material. Then wait for it to dry. Then lay tile. Wait for it to dry. Then grout. I prefer that they do the coping first before the tiling. This reduces the chance of a large gap where the tile and coping meet. Waterline and everything being perfectly level is critically important.

In my build, I was least impressed by the tile guys. Their job is not easy and now add the hot and humid houston weather to the mix

That's how I'm feeling... Pretty underwhelmed. They've been here since 11 but nothing is attached yet. They've spent probably 70% of the time sitting in the chairs on my porch talking, laughing, dribbling my son's soccer ball, or with their phones. The rest they spent measuring, cutting, and laying the coping in place. At one point when I got home from an errand my daughter went outside to add ice to the cooler and one of the guys jumped up like he'd just gotten caught taking too long of a break. Lol. I know it's hot out, so I get the need for frequent breaks but it seems excessive without a lot of steady work.

I'm trying to be patient and give the benefit of the doubt. I realize that I don't know the job and could make assumptions about why they're waiting. Just hard to watch the idleness when I'm wanting so bad to see it progressing.

They went back to it while I was typing this post and had to come ask for access to the breaker box. Our porch GFI apparently isn't strong enough so they've had stuff plugged in inside letting all my A/C slip out through the partially opened door. The breaker flipped and now they split their equipment amongst two outlets in the house. We're supposed to go to dinner for the last night with our daughter in less than an hour (she goes back to South Korea tomorrow morning). We can't leave the house open. I don't know what to do... And the breaker just flipped again necessitating another breaker flip.

I talked the PB. We got a babysitter to come stay with the house for tonight and for tomorrow we gave the PB the garage door opener so he can come flip the breaker if there is a need.
Already found some problem spots but talked to Carlos and asked him to replace. He said okay and went back to what he was doing on the other side of the yard. It was drying in still wet mortar so 15 minutes later I went out and took a picture of it. He calls, "I'm going to replace it with a new one!" Lol. I just said, "I know, thank you so much. I'm just documenting everything about the pool build."
I'm sure they'll fix it and tomorrow before we leave for the airport and they get here we'll check all of them so we can leave a list for the PB if necessary.

Came home from dinner and checked them out as best we could with a flashlight. Okay, so I'm OCD - in case you hadn't noticed, lol. I need help knowing when I'm just being picky and when it really is a problem. The variation in the stone (not color so much as holes and what look like stains to me) really bother me but I know it's to be expected and they will "fix" some of the appearance with grout. We chose Light Walnut. Are small chips, surface scratches, and possible cracks acceptable? Are pieces literally full of holes okay? We also had one that was completely unlevel.

Hard to tell in this picture but covered in the little holes.

I'll take better overall pics in the morning when there is light.

Take some blue tape (painters tape?) or tape that will stand out and put it on the ones you do not like. Tell them to please replace them. Say it with a smile BUT in such a way it is not a question or suggestion. If they had listened to you when they were doing the work their job would be over. Now it is on them.
