Another green pool

Hey! I am on day 3 of SLAM. It seems to be progressing well. I started with a pH of 7.2. However, testing shows pH has gone up to 8.4 now. Should I reduce the pH or leave it alone?

My pool is 60000L vinyl.
CYA level is 50.
I am maintaining 20 FC using Cal-Hypo.

Leave it alone. You cannot get an accurate pH test with FC levels over 10. That's why you have to adjust your pH before starting the SLAM.

Be careful with the calcium levels. They're going to go up fast using that much cal hypo, which can cause scaling.

I actually used Bleach on days 1 and 2. Ran out of bleach, but was able to get Cal Hypo. I will be switching back to Bleach on Friday when we do our grocery run.

If I get some pool water and microwave it... That will get rid of the chlorine, right? Can I get a proper pH reading then?

Don’t waste your reagents - just test fc
until u get ready to do theOvernight Chlorine Loss Test
then fc & cc
If your SLAM Process Drags on for weeks then sometimes people need to let the fc drop & recheck ph but that is not your situation
As Crystal said keep an eye on ch - use effects of adding in PoolMath to see/ keep track of how much u have added . Slam On!

Thank you for your replies! I am a new pool owner combatting my first green pool. I'm glad this website exists. My pool is looking better every hour. I will leave the pH alone as advised.

Pool is blue now! But so cloudy...
