Am I ready to SLAM?

Pool has been a problem(algae, a little greenish and won’t hold chlorine) all year and the pool stores have been unable to help...while selling me hundreds of dollars worth of chemicals. That’s how I stumbled upon this sight...thank God! I’ve been reading as much as possible the last week or so and figured out I needed to SLAM the pool. So, I got my TF-100 test kit in today and these are my results, assuming I did them correctly.

TC 2
FC 1
CC 1
Ph 7.3
TA 110
CH 325
CYA 25

I also got a sample done at the pool store today just to compare numbers. This is what they showed.

TC .9
FC .5
Ph 7.1
TA 95
CH 200
CYA 25

So with these numbers, am I ready to start my SLAM this weekend?

Great, going to start the SLAM Saturday morning when I’ll have a couple days to closely monitor the FC levels. Thanks for the help! I’ll keep y’all posted on my results.
Don't delay! Start today! Algae is growing as I type. One dose before bed, another before you leave for work and probably half the algae will be dead when you get home tomorrow. Then you hit it after work, at bed, and in the morning again.

You might be done and swimming by Sunday if you start now.

Hmmm, sounds good to me. I just thought that I would need to be testing every couple hours when first starting the SLAM. In my pj’s now:), I’ll start tomorrow evening when I get home from work. Thanks!

One more question, for now. At what point will the water be safe to swim in?

Started my SLAM last Thursday evening. Everything seems to be going ok but this P.O.P thing is killing me!

Water has been VERY clear for several days now but still losing FC overnight. Over shot last night by a little and FC was 15(shock level 12) when I last checked around 10PM. This morning FC was at 6.5. :( Havent started cheking CC since my overnight loss is still so high. Going into my 5th day now so I hope the loss at night will start to decrease some.

Do you have light niche(s), ladders, etc? If so, check them carefully for algae. Also the skimmer throat, weir door, etc. Even under the main drain cover if you do not run your main drain regularly.

Don’t have any ladders. I did get in the pool Sunday and scrubbed with a hard bristled brush around the lights, skimmers and all the other nooks and cracks I could find.

I do have a couple drain covers on the wall of my pool which I believe is the intake for my fountains. When I was scrubbing everything i did notice some algea in the grates of the cover. I got as much as i could see. Wonder if i should try to remove those covers and check out the backside of them? I do have my fountains running a couple hours at night just to let the shock level water run through them and clean any algea that could be in them.

Is the light a conventional niche? If so, remove the light fixture. It should have a single screw at the top of the retaining ring. Remove that and the entire fixture should be able to be raised to the deck. Scrub inside the niche.

I have the Hayward Colorlogic light which I believe may have 3 screws on it. I assume its the same thing as the the conventional lights, just more screws?

Got in the pool this evening and cleaned behind the lights. That had to be some of the most disgusting stuff I’ve seen. Looked like sheets of slime coming off the surfaces.

I was a little surprised to find a little green algae coming off the walls of the deep end when I was scrubbing after 5 days of SLAMing and brushing. FC during that time has never dropped below 6.5.

Still SLAMing! Going into day #7. Does that seem normal? Pool was not a swamp when I started but did have algea all along the walls. Water was crystal clear after a day or two and has remained clear but still cant get the FC to hold.

Last night@10PM FC 12.5
6:45AM this morning FC 7.5:mad:
