Am I on the right track??

I'll read up on DE. I'm not knowledgeable about the filters inner workings. That's usually my husband's field. I can backwash. Lol.

If I continue along this path, what's your best guess on when I'll see a clear pool? My husband wants to place a friendly wager. Lol. But I want to ask the pros (yes, that's cheating, but so be it, I'm the one doing all the work!! Lol).

How often are you testing and adding bleach? That will be the best thing to make it clear faster. I really do not know how long it will take. I wonder if anyone has an idea. I am hoping for a week but have nothing to base that on LOL.

It almost seems as if the last part of the clear takes longer because you do not have the dramatic results you do in the beginning.

Read up on the DE and let us know if you have any questions.

Well yesterday I tested twice, but that's because I had an FC of 30something and was out all day. Tested this morning, just brushed the sides, back washed, added bleach. Testing again in about 30 minutes. It's definitely been needing less testing/adding now that it's turning blue. I haven't let it go below SLAM since last Saturday.

Last year I faced the same situation as you did Kgardiner. The entire SLAM took about 2 weeks. The slowest part of the SLAM seemed to be the same as you are experiencing, from green to blue seemed fast but the cloudiness took what seemed forever. The toughest part of ending the SLAM is the OCLT test. It was about 4 days before finally getting that test passed. Keep up the good work!!!

Just a quick update: Today my FC is at 15ppm and when I vacuumed I could SEE THE VACUUM ON THE BOTTOM!!!! It was faint, but definitely visible!!

I tried to test my CYA yesterday and the water didn't get cloudy and dot didn't disappear. I had added 2lb stabilizer last weekend. Not sure what to do about that.

I added 2lbs to start in powder form (hung sock in front of return and squeezed often, it was fully dissolved about 8 days ago). My pool in a little over 10,000 gallons, so I'm going to add another 2lbs today. I was just terrified I'd over do it. I guess it makes total sense it didn't test though since it would have been only 20ish ppm adding the lbs.

These are today!! Almost there!!? It's over 90 degrees here today so everyone is itching to get in lol. Sticking with the toddler pool till this slam is over, but oh man I was so tempted to jump in when I was brushing the sides! Lol

Lol. Yeah, I can smell the bleach lol. I'm not THAT tempted.

Even my husband said I made the right choice going with TFP! Trust me, that's huge. LOL

We can't remove the ladder. It's full of sand to hold it down. I've been brushing it, but I know I need to eventually get into the books and crannies. How do I do that without getting in the water? Or will 20 minutes in the water be terrible for me? I'm planning to wait till the water is clearer. But obviously need to keep it at SLAM until I know all the algae is out.

Try using your yard hose with a jet spray nozzle on it to hit all sides of the ladder. Or do you have a pressure spray device to use. Just be careful not to damage anything with the strong spray. If you get in just shower real well after a short time in. Not much worse than a dirty lake I expect.
