Am I on the right track??

Do you have any friends that can/will come over to help you get the steps out? I bet that your SLAM will be over if you can get it out and scrub it good.

If not just do the best you can to get it all clean. I am not sure you can do it without getting IN the pool though so..........in you go with an old suit on!

Haha! Love it!

Ok, new situation. Got in the pool to scrub ladder. While scrubbing, tipped ladder over and a lot of sand came out and is now on the pool floor. Along with the sand, I could see tons of green algae come out too!

1) Is it safe to just vacuum up the sand?
2) What on earth should I do about the algae?? Obviously there's a massive colony living in the ladder. [emoji22]

Ladders and light niches are places algae loves. It's warm, wet and very little water flow to get the chlorine in there.

Do you have the ability to vacuum to waste so you are not adding the sand to your sand filter. It probably wouldn't hurt the filter, but I'd rather it go away.

The ladder has sand i it for weight so it won't tip over. Pulling it out of the water, cleaning it out and adding new sand is the best course of action.

We do have a waste notch on the filter. So I'm guessing just turn it to waste and vacuum?

The ladder is really heavy and my husband probably won't be able to help till this weekend (and will definitely be resistant at that). Would it be terrible if I emptied the sand into the pool first?

That certainly wouldn't be my first choice...

Remember, when the filter is set to waste you will be pumping water out of the pool and it will come out wherever your backwash water comes out.

K,

You REALLY need to get that sand out :( it will cause you no end of problems due to the algae that is already in it.

The best way is to get the ladder out and dump it. If you want you could put it in a wheel barrow and wash it with bleach water if you do not want to get new sand.

I wonder if you could put something else in the ladder to weight it down? OR if you could seal it with something (silicone?) to keep the sand in and water (algae) out?

Make sure to turn your pump OFF before you turn anything on your filter.

Good luck!

I'm going back in the pool now to see if I can hoist it onto the deck. My daughter will be home from school in a few hours, so if I can't get it, I'll see if she can help.

I think we have an extra bag of sand so I'd rather just replace it.
I'm going to pick my husband's brain about sealing it! That's a great idea. What a pain! It's like they make the ladders like this on purpose!

Definitely know to turn off pump first. :) Been back washing daily so that was the first thing my old man taught me.

I've developed super human strength. The ladder is out!! (Thankfully no one had to witness my getting out of the pool without it!)

Now I need a drink. And a game plane for emptying the ladder and cleaning it out.
