We are back to drain as much water as you safely can and refill to whatever level you close your pool.

Ok. Is there anything you recommend using to get that staining out of my liner out? If you can see it’s just above the water line. Also this is the sending year for Pool so next year do I need to get new sand? Also what can be causing the phosphates. Is that a high number or normal that you see in the pool?

now I see that recommends an Algecide. Is that going to have the copper in it also?

Removing copper stains is not an easy process. Especially since you say it is above the water line. I can’t see it in the picture. I suggest you consider it a piece of jewelry on your liner for the time being.

For pool closings we only recommend using Polyquat 60 algaecide which does not contain copper.

Sand in filters rarely needs to be replaced. How old is the sand? You can deep clean a sand filter.

Your phosphates should be dumped with the copper water draining. And 2000 ppm of phosphates is not very high.

We just got pool August 2019 so sand is barely 1 year old. But I didn’t know since I am battling this algae problem if maybe algae is in the sand or something. I’m probably going to drain and refill tomorrow and close the following week. Hopefully this works. And I guess i can live with the staining. No one else can tell but I see the discoloration and it does bother me!! Now my kids have slight tint of green hair also. So why do these places use copper in their chemicals if it does no good!

You can open up the filter and look at the condition of the sand.

What test kit do you have?

I have the Taylor test kit that test cya, ch,ta,fc,cc, then i just bought a Taylor kit to test for phosphates which i havnt received yet because I thought maybe that is why this algae keep a coming back so was gonna see if it was high

What # Taylor test kit?

Test your fill water for pH, TA, Ch and phosphates when you get the test.

Yup, sample from the hose.

Some municipal water supplies have phosphates in the water to prevent corrosion.

actually, if you could go look at the test kit model number we'd all know for sure which test kit you have.

As for closing, algaecide use is strictly a choice by pool owners, but never one required. If people choose to use one it should be the Polyquat 60 type.

Draining your pool will get rid of copper and bromine laden water. Neither of those chemicals were ever recommended for pools by TFP. Pool stores do a great disservice selling clueless pool owners these questionable chemicals. Here at TFP we teach people to never put anything in the water that they don't know what it will do and why they're using it.

Once you drain, refill and add a bit of chlorine and CYA to your pool you can close it up. Then next year plan on opening it and we can help you figure out what it needs. Over winter you can browse our site and learn how to manage your pool the TFP way.

Sooooo. I took out ladder noticed algae and dirt coming out of it and just like that no more algae growing in pool... guess it was coming from ladder. Next year I’m definitely going to be doing syringes of fc in there. And it’s almost 2/3 drained. Gonna start refill. Thanks for all yiur help. You guys are great. I ordered the polyquart 60. Gonna add that fc and cya and close her up for next summer
