Air blower causes high pressure alert on pump

This is a common problem with new builds, especially gunite/shotcrete.

I turn the spa on with the pump set to about 35 GPM, then turn that air blower on for just a few seconds to get the jets moving. I turn the air blower off, and all goes well.
With 6-8 jets, you should be operating close to full speed to get the full venturi effect. Standard jets require at least 15 GPM/jet and some versions, more.

How many spa jets are there?

Do your jet nozzles look like this:

If so, you can use a long 9/16" socket wrench to remove them.

I have four jets. I think it looks like that! So based off that, I should run the spa mode at 60 gpm? I used to run it at 3000rpm, but I hated running it that high while it was heating up so I turned it way down. By the time we got in, the jets were running well enough with the help of the jumpstart by the air blower so we haven't been adjusting it.

I could be fine with 60gpm for the time it takes to heat up the spa, though. Thank you!

As an update, I cleaned the salt cell. It had only been cleaned one time since the pool was completed December 2021. It was cleaned by our former pool guy. One of the reasons I stopped using them was that every time I asked about cleaning the salt cell, he would reply that he had just cleaned it even though it had been six months.

The fittings were EXTREMELY tight. We had to wait to complete the cleaning until some oil filter pliers could arrive. When we got them cleared, we were surprised to find that both of the fittings had no gasket at all. It's just absent. So I'm left wondering if the pool builder failed to put them on, or if the pool guy removed them on purpose. It's bizarre.

The salt cell wasn't awful, but it is all clean now and has lubricated gaskets installed. It seems to be running well. I also purchased a new pressure gauge and installed that.

I ran the pool at 90 gpm, and all looked well. Pressure on the new gauge said it was well below 10psi. I started the spa and all seemed well. I ran the air blower and watched the gauge. It didn't go about 10psi. Yet the system still alerted me to a max pressure warning even though I didn't see it on the gauge.

As for bubbles, there were many bubbles from one return (and the top of the return) when I started up the pool at 90GPM, but it cleared up within a few minutes and seems to be fine now.
