Hey guys,

So we are doing a bunch of work in the backyard including repaving the concrete surrounding the pool. Since the ground will be exposed, we though it would be a good opportunity to install some pool lights in our in-ground vinyl pool.

Of course we will get a certified electrician to do the electrical work and everything but one thing we can figure out is how to install the light housing properly in our EXISTING pool where liner is already installed. Let me explain why I am confused:

-the manual to install lights we purchased can be found here: https://www.pioneerfamilypools.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Vinyl_Installation_Manual_English.pdf

-as per page 11 (step 6), you are supposed to cut the hole in the steel wall and stick the niche in, THEN place the vinyl over it so that you can secure the clamp ring. The vinyl tightened up by the clamp ring is then cut along the inside so that you can pull the wiring through.

My problem is: how do I perform step 6 if my vinyl is already sealed up and in place?

Want your expert opinion on how to install this properly.

Thanks in advance guys!

Any light whether a niche or a nicheless needs the liner removed to be installed. Usually done during a liner swap or can sometimes be done by unhooking a section and draping liner out of the way. This depends on how old the liner is and your skill level. I recommend nicheless lights for this application much easier to do. You need alot of room for a light niche behind the wall and it's a large area to dig out. It must be compacted very well and carefully afterwards otherwise it will settle and the coping/deck will go with it

we have all the trenches and conduits in place. Would you mind providing some advice on how to unhook a section of the liner without damaging it? Attempted with a screwdriver but didn’t want to place too much force in case we risked damaging it.

Never mind. Managed to derail the vinyl, got the niches installed and popped the liner back in.
