Adding salt to a newly refinished pool

So, I had my pool refinished with all new coping, tile and pebbletec. We filled the pool on Saturday Sep 28. In the past I have used liquid chlorine, but I am converting to swg. I purchased a Circus pool RJ45 and want to install

When I filled the pool, the company said to not add salt for 30 days, and I am past that now. Any reason to not go ahead and add salt? My understanding is to add the salt before installing and turning on the swg.

I was planning on using Diamond Crystals Solar Natural from Home Depot.

Before adding salt, test the current pool water salinity. You may be surprised that there is already some salt in there from liquid chlorine and muriatic acid additions. You do not want to overshoot the salt level.

If I were in your situation, I would consider adding salt that is specifically for a swimming pool. I've seen the salt from Home Depot and Lowes, and it seems dirty to me. I use it in a water softener. If it is only a couple dollars more for pool store salt, why not consider it?

There are a number of reports on "brand-name" pool salt having metals and other contaminants in them, and the source of the salt can be suspect. I like the Solar Gems/Solar Naturals (the ones without any additives) water softener salt.

Dirty Morton Pool Salt

I just dumped 7 bags ofMorton's Professional Pool Salt from Home Depot into my pool and was surprised to see black dirt (or something) on the floor of my pool. Is this normal? Is there better salt I should have used?

I tested salt level today before adding salt and got 400. What should I use for a target? Using 3200 as a target I got a recommendation to add 469lbs of salt. How much salt would you add before retesting?

Add 2/3 rds. Mix well and run pump a day or two. Test again and add as necessary to get to target.
