I SLAM'ed my pool about a month ago and it's been looking great. I've always read that you should add chlorine to the pool at night so that the sun doesn't burn it off and it can effectively kill the organics. I understand that all of that makes sense when you are trying to get rid of an algae bloom; however, if you are simply trying to maintain your chlorine levels, what is the difference of adding it at night vs the day. For example, if I'm trying to maintain 7ppm of FC and it currently reads at 5ppm, then if I add the chlorine to get it up to 7ppm at night time, then theoretically it should still be 7ppm in the morning until the sun starts burning it off. I guess my point is that if you are constantly maintaining your FC levels, there will always be a period of time during the day when the sun burns it off, so why does it matter when you add it? Does the sun burn chlorine faster from your pool if it's at higher FC levels? Or does it always burn off at the same rate?

I understand that there will ALWAYS be an organics part to this equation where some of the chlorine is being used to kill off organics, but that shouldn't change when we actually apply chlorine unless you're trying to kill an algae bloom.... right? Just trying to see if my logic makes sense here and I can stop worrying about when to add chlorine and just add it whenever it's needed..... FOR MAINTAINING FC LEVELS.

Your testing will reveal a pattern. Let’s say you always test and dose at 5:00 pm. If you’ve dosed 2 - 3 ppm above your target range then when you test and dose the next day and you’re at middle number of your target range. Then you’ll add 2 - 3 ppm of LC again to get back to above target. Rinse and repeat.

It‘s better to run a tad high than to get anywhere near the minimum.
