Adding calcium

You have a vinyl pool. Why are you adding calcium?
I don’t know😆 I’ve been a pool owner for only 5 weeks and I’m trying to learn everything. Got the pool math app and it tells me to add calcium, as did the pool store about a month ago. Is it bad for the heater or anything if it’s not at the “right” level?

Heater. OK -- that is why it is best if you fill out a signature.
Is this a gas fired heater?

I swear I’ve filled out all my info, but people keep suggesting I add info, so I must be doing something wrong. Where is the signature? The box below pool info where you can free text?

The heater is a Rheem 206 LP

pool math is telling me to add 22lbs of calcium hardness increaser
PoolMath is just a calculator. If you give it a target, it will tell you how to achieve it. It's important to not blindly follow its output. You need to have a basic understanding of pool chemistry and use PoolMath appropriately to achieve your goals.

Yes, of course. I have somewhat of a self-deprecating sense of humor and way of speaking. So while I do have plenty to learn about caring for my pool, I know to not blindly rely on an app. I’ll be sure to read through all the awesome articles on this site. Thanks for your input.

If you are adding calcium chloride, follow up with a FC check afterward. Calcium chloride addition causes FC crash in many instances. Restore proper FC level with liquid chlorine.
