We have an above ground pool. It has a Pentair Dynamo 1.5HP 2 speed pump. Husband turned it on, then turned it off. When he went to turn it on again it would not come on.
I had a similar issue with my Hayward 1hp pump. Turn it on and it would hum as the stator would not rotate. I was able to manually turn it so I knew it was not frozen. Ended up taking apart the motor and cleaning it, and reassembling. Has been running fine for 2 years since.
Might be a capacitor going bad on you. A fairly easy DIY if you or the hubby are comfortable disconnecting power to the pump to remove and replace the capacitor.
First check to ensure you have power to the pump though. Hopefully you have a test meter or some type at home where you can verify power (correct voltage) to the pump. Sometimes breakers go bad upstream.
