Above Ground Pool Deck Build - 16x18 Deck for 24 ft AGP

That is interesting that you had to be inspected... I am putting a pool in and there are no inspectors here :)

It will cost me 45 dollars for a permit though...

Permit and inspection here. Last year for the pool I had to have an electrical pre-inspection, pool inspection, and bonding inspection.

For the deck a dug footing inspection (done), framing inspection (done), and then a final inspection once it’s all done.

All this for a city of 30,000 people. The inspectors aren’t jerks though, and given that a second set of eyes to make sure it’s all safe and sound isn’t so bad with a DIY job.

Some of the big cities around here I’ve read only licensed contractors can even pull a permit to do work. My city it’s homeowner or contractor.

Good progress! The decking is down, rail guides are done, and I’ve started adding the spindles for the railing.

All that’s left is to finish the spindles, and then to build a gate. I bought a “self closing gate kit” from HD so we’ll see how that works.

There’s rain in the forecast for tomorrow — so we’ll see if I’m able to get more done or not. But overall feel great about the progress.

Looking great!

It's always so foreign to me to see backyards without solid privacy fences. I like the open feel I get from your pictures, but then I think about how annoying it would be to always have to have proper clothing on whenever I go in the backyard. Plus I don't want my neighbors up in my business ;)
Around here we have no fences- if you don’t wanna see what’s shakin in my backyard u better not look 😂😂😂
Luckily i have quite a bit of land & my hot tub is strategically placed so you can’t see much if my cars are parked correctly 😄

That is crazzy, I put my 16x32 Intex in with no permit or inspection at all.. seems like a money grab to me....

WOWZER!! That is some good work right there!!

Will you be covering the sides of the deck bottom? If so I suggest you put a gate or door so you can use it for storage. You can also hang large PVC pipes to store the poles and hoses under the deck but off the ground.

Eventually I’ll probably add some lattice panels. Definitely want a door or something removal to preserve that storage space though.

Great idea on the hanging space. Thanks for the tip!

Being a Floridian, I always go towards the lighter end of the color scale. Even the beige sand in my yard gets super hot to the touch!

When you are ready, post your options and we will all dogpile on with our opinions. LOL

We waited for ours to dry out a bit & did the Ready Seal
We did the deck in july of 2019 & I stained it in oct after i put the cover on the pool so I didn’t have to worry about getting it on the top rails.
- you just do a little bleach wash/rinse 1st & let it dry before applying. To recoat in a year or two or whenever that’s all u have to do again. So far we like its performance going on the 3rd pool season. My mom did her porch & deck with it too around the same time. I mainly picked it for the ease of re application & amazon/lowes will ship it to your door. 66AF9EFE-D3CC-4F5C-9CE4-972DA5E1EED6.jpeg

Nice. I’ll keep that in mind for any future/smaller jobs. I rented a big towable auger which dug decent enough, although the rental unit was in rough shape. I ended up using a 10-inch auger bit for my 12-inch holes. I tried a 12 but it got stuck in the clay way too easily. I think I paid like $120 for the 24 hour rental. The worst part was it dropped almost everything back into the hole, so I ended up needing a manual digger to clean it out anyway. It was an awful job and I hope to never do that again, lol.

I’ll hopefully have a concrete mixer for sale in a week or so if you’re interested. :ROFLMAO:

I'm debating doing the EXACT same. I see them on OfferUp from time to time. (1 month old for 15% off) We aren't the only ones. :ROFLMAO:

Sold the Concrete Mixer today on the Facebook Marketplace within a few hours of posting. After discount/tax I paid $303 for it... and sold it for $300. [Price went up after I bought, so a new one today is $350]

I'm going to call that a $3 equipment "rental". That's my kind of deal!

Also - passed final inspection today, so we're officially DONE! Now to 'deck' (pun intended?) it out with some pool decor.

You do great work! Are you planning to stain it?

Thank you! Yeah once the pressure treated wood dries out we’ll do something with it. Color recommendations?? :)

Ask and you shall receive. As spring approaches (allegedly, it sure doesn't look it outside), I'm looking at options for staining.

Here's five colors I'm looking at. Opinions? :)
