Hello!
I am brand new to TFP and the forums, and as the title suggests, we are purchasing a home (Minnesota, closing in 13 days) that has a 4 year old in-ground pool that is 20x40 and approximately 30,000 gallons. It has a vinyl liner and a power operated cover.
We have never had a pool before so we are brand new to the world of owning a pool and the thought of it while extremely exciting, is also very overwhelming. I had been reading a lot about pool maintenance over the past few weeks and it’s a lot to take in. Fortunately, the sellers were willing to have us over today to go over pool maintenance with us and we learned quite a bit, but I still don’t feel comfortable that I know all we need to know.
For starters, the sellers told us they have a Paramount UV something-or-other so aside from putting some granular chlorine in once a week, that is pretty much the extent of the chemicals required to maintain their pool during “open” season. We were really surprised to learn this, and would love some feedback on this and how it works and why more chemical treatment and testing is not required?
We were also surprised to learn that when winterizing, we do NOT drain ANY of the water out of the pool, contrary to everything I had read about draining below the skimmer. We do plan to hire the recommended pool company to come out and walk us through our equipment and winterize our pool this year for sure.
So, I would love some insight into what I have mentioned above and Pro/Cons to the Paramount UV system especially. Would also like to know how often we should be vacuuming our pool? They will be leaving a Polaris vac sweep (currently unsure of model).
Thabks! I look forward to learning all I need to know here! I have already and will continue to check out Pool School as well!
