A farm resort build

Hello TFP!

We are about to break ground on a pool at a farm resort we are building in Bulacan in the Philippines and I am hoping to get some assistance with the unknown unknowns, of which there are a lot since this is our first pool.

Here's an early rendering from our architect. We like the design and the dimensions will be ~26' x 39' with an 8' x 8' spa and a Baja shelf that runs the length of the pool on the spa side.

Since it's a build in the Philippines, materials options and availability can be a challenge. That being said, there are pools everywhere (beating the heat is a way of life!) and they seem to work just fine.

From our contract, the plumbing supplies look like this:

Plumbing System

  • PVC Orange Pipe 1/2”
  • PVC Elbow 1 ½”
  • PVC M. Adaptor Blue 1 ½”
  • PVC Tee 1 ½”
  • PVC Ball Valve 1 ½”
  • Neltex Cement 400cc
And the equipment looks like this:

Swimming Pool Equipment and Filtration System (Made in the U.S.A.) - Hayward Brand

  • One (1) unit Motor Pump (Super II Motor Pump 2.5HP) complete with Strainer Basket
  • One (1) unit D.E. Filter Tank, Model DE72.20 complete with Pressure Gauge, Air Relief Valve, and Union Connector
  • One (1) unit Blower 1.0HP
  • Heater (?) - We're still trying to figure out the right heater for the spa but that's where we are at the moment

As for the spa, the idea is to have eight jets and two different height benches at ~36" water depth, one at ~15.75 in (40 cm) and the other at ~20 in (51 cm). Please forgive my crude drawing:

Question: For the jets in the spa, what height should they be at? Should I stagger them so that they're not all at the same height?

We plan to go with a ceramic tile throughout the entire pool and spa. Definitely not going to risk glass.

Any input is welcome and thanks again for reading!

A few comments from a US perspective not knowing what you have available.

Use all 2" schedule 40 PVC where possible. Spa plumbing will need 2.5" or 3" pipe to get good jet flow rates. I don't know what PVC Orange Pipe is.

You want to keep the water velocity below 6 ft/sec on the suction and below 8 ft/sec on the pressure side of the pump.

Pipe Size6 ft/sec8 ft/sec
1.5"38 GPM51 GPM
2"63 GPM84 GPM
2.590 GPM119 GPM
3.0"138 GPM184 GPM
4.0"235 GPM312 GPM

With 8 jets in the spa you need around 120 - 160 GPM flow rate for good massage feel. Each jet needs 15 - 20 GPM of flow.

To get those flow rates you need a dedicated spa jet pump. There is a separate return in the spa for filtering, SWG, and heating. The jet pump is only for the jets. The way to plumb a spa with a separate pump is shown below:

This is the way my spa is setup with one pump for filter and heater and another dedicated to the jets…
