45 year old does not have a hydrostatic release valve. Just a hex shaped black plug.

I’m hopeful that the standard release valve will thread in nicely once I get the black plug removed but the black plug won’t budge. Also, water is leaking back in from drain pipe. Not sure if there is a leak there or if I should snake out the 40 years of accumulated sledge. I think the drain pipe is hooked to pump and not skimmer.

First time painting my pool. Old pool. But it’s new to me.
