Cloudy pool

Break your TC up if you will...

What was your FC....what was your CC?? This will help us make sure you're at shock level. Either way, if it's cloudy, or your CC is above 0.5 you've gotta start to shock. You've now got all the tools needed, and we'll get you through it all.

Chlorine Drop test - If you need to......1) measure Chlorine levels accurately or 2) higher than 5ppm or 3) test for Combined Chloramines…perform the Chlorine Drop Test. (FAS/DPD)

1. Rinse and fill the “Chlorine only” graduated cylinder to the 10mL mark
2. Add ONE heaping scoop of the R-870 powder and swirl to mix. (It may not all dissolve….don’t worry) The solution will turn pink. (unless you have no chlorine)
3. Next, carefully add R-871 solution one drop at a time. Count each drop and swirl until the solution turns back to clear. Multiply the number of drops you added times .5 (14 drops X .5 = 7ppm)
4. Record your results as FC (free chlorine)
5. To test for Combined Chloramines, add 5 drops of R-0003 to the solution and swirl. If it remains clear, you have no CC’s. If it returns back to pink, add R-0871 as before, counting and swirling between each drop. Once the solution returns clear, multiply the added drops times .5 again…..this will be your CC reading. Record it. The total of FC and CC should be recorded as TC (total chlorine)

One thing I've seen suggested when looking at that pink is once it looks clear add one more drop, if it clears even more, count the drop. If it doesn't clear more, don't count the drop. Doing this you'll always use one more drop than needed but you'll have an accurate reading that you can be confident of. :-D

436oz of 6% bleach should take you up to a shock level of 21FC. Get it this high and keep it there. You've got a high CC level which indicates a dirty dirty pool. You've got some work in front of you.

You may want to get a jug of distilled water to use in testing the FC level. Fill the tube to the 5ml mark with pool water, and then to the 10ml mark with distilled water. Finish the test as normal counting drops as you go. Do not however multiply the end result by .5. If it takes 10 drops to get the water clear, your FC is at a level of 10. Saves you test supplies this way.

For the next few days, you need to constantly check your FC level and make sure it is at Shock Level at all times. Also be doing a lot of scrubbing and possibly vacuuming as well. I'm sure others will add other things that you should do, but this is the minimum.

On the bottom there's "suggested goal levels". Select tfp and fill out your info. For now however, just enter 21 into the FC box, and keep your shock level up there.
