2hp hayward pump/filter Best timer?

HAVE TO BE A 20 AMP I BELIEVE AND NEEDS A PLUG NOT HARD WIRED, WHAT TIMER DO YOU USE ON YOUR POOL FILTERS?

Does your plug have a normal 3 prong plug or is it a twist-lock plug?

Hi, its 3 prong twist type but i have an adapter on it and its plugged inyo a timer from home depot 15 amp but it melted it.

I use a woods timer I got from Amazon I’ve had it for 4 yrs keep plugged in year round. Woods 50015. Good timer!

How many amps does the motor draw? The Woods description I found says this and I am guessing the motor may draw more than the allowed 15A.

My Hayward 1.1/2 draws 12 amps. Not sure what a 2 hp would draw I’m guessing 15.

According to this Hayward table, a 30 Amp switch is required for 115V service to accommodate the STARTING amp draw for the motor. The Running Load will be less than this.

If your motor takes 12 amps to run you would need 20 amps for start up. General rule is 1-1/2 times draw amps for start up
