I've gotten all the sod removed from the ground. Ive raked the dirt and its mostly level. However it does slope to one side some. I plan on using paver stones under each leg. I have about 2-3 inches of sand spread evenly and tamped to even out with the stones. As long as the stones are level(not on sand, they are packed in the dirt) do i need to worry about the actually ground below the sand too much as long as the pavers are level from stone to stone. I plan on putting insulations/foam on top of the sand and a tarp on top of all that. Let me know what you think. I appreciate any help!

I'm using your plan too, except after studying the pool design and thinking about it, I've decided to put a complete rim of pavers down. My reasons are several, but mainly because I can see the legs themselves don't support the wall, it pretty much bears evenly around the entire perimeter. Plus using a continuous paver rim closes up the foam so nothing decides to tunnel into it from the edge. I agree that you should not have to worry about small stones (less than an inch diameter) if they are under the foam. For foam, I'm going to use 2" xps.

The dirt is very very hard. I dont think there will be much compacting to do. I plan on starting the stones on the lower side, so i will dig out any spots for the stones that need to be lower. i plan on packing the heck out of the sand. My main issue is that the people bringing the sand was not supposed to bring it till Monday. They brought it yesterday instead. The middle where they dropped the sand is probably the most level part. However i know one side sets some higher than the other. Its more wavy than mass amounts of inches off level. As long as i level the stones from stone to stone and pack the sand really well. I should have much issue correct? Another question is that the foam i use, can is set above the pavers? or does it need to be level with them? I was told by a guy who installs pools for a living that its really as simple as leveling stones and it doesnt really matter what the ground is like as long as the stones are level baring drastic unleveled areas. I really appreciate the feedback guys, I just want to get this right without my pool dumping 12000 gallons of water all over the backyard.
