2 skimmer set up opening pool

Hello, first time opening pool on my own. I have 2 skimmers and each has two holes in bottom with each having the hole closest to the pool blocked. From reading it sounds like maybe they are supposed to be but wanted to confirm it wasn't something the pool company does when they closed it and one should be removed. The other holes had the gizmos. If thats all good then how should i turn the valves on in the picture? I cant find the pictures i took last year. Thanks

I'd just leave the valves the way they are...

Both skimmers are open and your main drain is shut off.

When the main drain is run back to the equipment pad, like you have, the 2nd hole in the skimmer is left plugged.

Are you having a skimmer issue??

No issue, haven't turned filter yet. Should I open up both lines and bottom suction for first few days until I get it cleaner. There's some decent algae but not as bad or last year and much clearer.

I always have my main drain partially open. This ensures the pump always has good water supply should the skimmer get clogged with leaves.
Also, for you, opening up the main drain now will circulate fresh chlorinated water to those pipes and help clean some bottom debris.
