Hi,

Exactly what the thread title says. 1st time pool owner, inherited from a new house purchase. Based in Australia.

Loving that I've been fortunate to find TFP so early on in my journey. Lots to learn. The approach and concept of regular testing (must be the science background in me) really appealed to me....in addition to peace of mind knowing that the pool shop is not giving me the run around.

(Already running into to challenges and will be seeking advice, but will keep that for my next thread).

Geday Navigator and welcome to TFP,
I see you’ve already discovered CCL’s they are the only place to get the salt drop test and the FAS/DPD as individual kits. More recently we’ve been able to get the the Taylor K2006c through Mr PoolMan but it’s not cheap and doesn’t have the salt test. If you’ve inherited any kits with the pool you can use the Aussie gold pH comparator with the CCL reagent. My salt kit gave an odd result but it was an easy fix. I ran the test with the supplied standard the divided the standard (4000ppm) by the no. of drops for a new resolution which I applied to the pool sample.

I get things like acid, liquid chlorine and salt from a pool shop or bunnings, depending on which is closest at the time, just avoid asking questions at the pool store. There’s not many who know that FC reacts with CyA and none of them know that there is an AU standard for domestic pools that doesn’t put a ceiling on FC. The AU standard is very old and the FC/CyA ratio is just not taught in pool tech training.
Avoid the magnesium salt, it’s an expensive gimmick and will mess with your CH test that’s important for pebblecrete pools.

Feel free to ask about anything, we’re here to help.

Thanks for reaching out @AUSpool, I am currently having some initial testing woes (here: other thread). Not sure if you have any ideas, like you've mentioned I don't really want to resort to relying on the local pool shop tech.
