I think about this one from time to time and I'm still very interested to see how this one turns out. Congrats on moving forward with it! Very anxious to see the results. Nice job on the pun. :lol:
Have someone at work who is contemplating doing the same thing... I think their pool was from the 70's. Eager to see how yours turns out.

I vote for Pentair equipment and Pool Pilot SWG. Ive got no complaints in my 3rd summer. Salt water is definitely the way to go. JMO.
This is very exciting. Can't wait to see pics! My mom has a recurring dream that there was a pool in our backyard, must tell her it can happen!
thanks everyone. i think i really like the french gray plaster you get a real good blue look. rumor has it white plaster makes the pool colder.
looking at some (hopefully) top notch equipment. possible list, pentair cartridge filter, pentair intellachlor, pentair vsp, pentair lonx400k heater and not sure yet about automation or pool cleaner.
Replumb pool new skimmer, split main drain, (new code) three return
lines, vacuum line, auto fill, valves.
any thoughts?, missing items? what for spa? how many lines/jets?

Funny you should say that, OHMYPOOL just posted some additional evidence in that direction. I happen to agree with you on both the water color and temperature fronts. Or at least that the darker plaster contributes to a warmer pool to some degree(s) versus white.
On the water color, two pools here spoke to me, bpricedo's and bobinbaltimore's.

I would add that you ought to go with a good quartz finish in a color you like. I'm in the other camp on white pools. I don't think white makes the water look cold at all. It's taste, but quartz is better than straight plaster. Pigments added during mixing of plaster can very problematic as well.

That tile is awesome. Can't wait to see more pics of this one coming along. I too like white plaster pools...I'm in a minority. We ended up with a white quartz plaster. It's not snow white like marble plaster just a few shades off (I can't tell you what the color is to me, but it's not pure white). It gave the water a gorgeous color IMO.(i'd better think that).
Water temp. IMO color doesn't make THAT much difference. Family member less than 3 miles away from me has a pool that's DARK blue plaster. Temps are similar on my white and his blue...so far at least.

Ours was tinted with quartz (Diamond Brite actually). What problems are you referring to? If it is mottling, it's not a problem per se, just a known issue that needs to be disclosed beforehand (ours has very noticeable mottling but it's my favorite aspect of the pool - again, taste). There could be other issues I'm not aware of - maybe I'll find out in the future! It's not a concern to me but if you have details on the problems, the OP might be interested.

I answered your question on my thread, just thought I'd let you know. The "mottling" are the trowel strokes when they smooth out the plaster. I am also one that thinks they look cool. I wouldn't have it any other way. The differences in color are very beautiful. To each their own! No right or wrong answer!

Looks like the pool tile is damaged to me, he'll probably have to end up replacing it.
I don't think the tile is damaged. What you see is probably just dirt. I'm hoping it will clean up pretty good. Havent even tried yet. Bigger fish to fry. But, It is tile after all so it's pretty resilient.

and I believe Brushpups comment on pigments was on pigments...not quartz. There are dyes/pigments that you can buy to alter the color of your plaster. It's much much cheaper than quartz...but the variation in color is really bad (compared to adding quartz to change color)

The good thing is quartz is really cheap (in comparison to the project total) so there's no need to go with pigments if they have other issues. Quartz is about $30/bag versus say $5/bag for marbleite, but for our 27K gallon pool we only used about 3 bags of onyx (black) to get grey, so a C-note.
