Does anyone have a method for calculating cost per hour to run a pool pump? I'd also like to figure out how to estimate the savings if I install a 2 speed pump. I currently have a 2HP Jandy Stealth.
It's actually pretty easy to figure. Take volts x amps = watts, watts / 1000 = kilowatts, kilowatts x hours running = KWH's (kiolwatt/hours), KWH's x your electric cost per KWH = cost.
You can figure it by any time frame you want (hour, day, week, month, etc.). It gets a little trickier if your electric utility has stepped rates. Then you have to figure out when the pump will be running and what the breakdown of charges will be.
You can use the spreadsheet I put together some time ago (see signature). You can put your existing pump into the reference column and compare it to any other pump.
