Last Monday's weather called for rain in the afternoon. PB's Gunite contractor came early in the morning (7 AM) and shot the Gunite. Once finished (around 2 pm) they put plastic sheets over it. It started raining an hour later and it rained through the night to early next morning.

Yesterday (Wed.) they came to winterize the plumbing/equipment and remove the plastic sheets. After removing the sheets we found 3 long cracks in the shell. (PB advised it was caused from the rain.) The cracks are probably 10-15 feet long, at times about 2 inches wide and close to 2 inches deep.

Today a concrete specialist from the PB came to assess the cracks. He advised they will have to bring back the contractors to break thru the existing crack lines (making bigger channels) and reshoot new Gunite. He advised he seen this many times, not to worry, and assured me that Gunite is a great product in that new Gunite will bond and adhere very well to the existing Gunite.

So, I would love to get any and all feedback about what I should be doing. What should I expect from my PB. Should they be fixing it now or next year? Is it true that Gunite will bond to the existing Gunite like there were never cracks?

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

You will be fine. Your PB's expert is saying all of the right things. I like how they plan to clean it up and get it ready to redo. It is common to add gunite to old gunite to change the depth or add a bench or step. There have been times they could not do the whole shell in one shot so they come back and finish with no problem.

The plaster will cover any lines you can see between the old and new gunite.
