Filter recommendation needed

I am replacing my pump with a VS pump and am contemplating replacing my existing DE filtet due to age. I also don't have a good way to backwash it due to location.

Do you recommend a sand, cartridge, or DE filter? Any specific brand to stay away from?

Really depends on your individual factors.. If you have difficulty with backwash, then cartridge works well. If you do not maintain your water TFP, then sand is a good idea as it is easier to deal with algae, but you have to backwash. There are new hybrid DE filters that you do not backwash, you clean just like a cartridge filter.

Lots of options ............

Brands really do not matter. Filtering capacity and how it fits on your pool pad are more important.
