Cleaning winter cover

I removed a winter cover off my pool earlier this year, the pool was black and it took me nearly 50 days on SLAM to clear it of all the bad stuff.

I folder the cover up at the time and it has been sitting in my garage.

I was thinking of getting a big tub, adding chlorine and basically carrying a mini SLAM on it? To ensure the cover is clean of any live algae before adding it back on to the cover the pool.

Is this a good idea? or am i thinking too deeply.

I would be more concerned about mildew/mold on the cover. Algae spores are everywhere but a properly balanced pool will not allow algae to grow. Did you dry the cover off before folding it up? I would find an area that you can open it up completely and clean it. Then allow it to thoroughly dry and fold and store it properly.
