Filter spitting algae into the pool

Welcome to the forum!

Algae is a chemical issue, not a filtering issue. Are you saying you have algae? Or do you have an issue with the multi-port valve?

Can you provide us with a complete set of test results?

Welcome again -- take care.

I will have to get the water tested again but the last test 2 weeks ago was fine. When we rinse & backwash the pool & then turn the filter back on we watch all the dirty green water spit into the pool through the water filter & turn our sparkling blue pool green!!

I will ill get the water tested again & take a photo of this happening next time to show you. We have a major rain event here in queensland at the moment so all this fresh water will require chemicals anyway! And a back wash before the pool overflows!

The forum does not hold much confidence in pool store testing. We highly recommend getting your own test kit to perform the proper tests of your pool water chemistry. Testing every couple weeks is a recipe for a mess.

As you are in Australia, you have an available test kit that is equivalent to the Taylor K2006C here in the USA.

I suggest you Private Message needsajet as he is a forum member in Australia that can direct you to were to get a proper test kit.

Take care.

You mention that you Rinse and Backwash. If you do the rinse cycle BEFORE you backwash, this is an incorrect method. Also, be sure to always SHUT OFF the filter pump BEFORE you move and filter valves. So, when you want to backwash a sand filter, shut the power down, turn backwash valve to Backwash, turn pump on, Backwash for 1 minute or so. Shut power off, put filter valve on RINSE, turn power back on and run for 15-30:Seconds, shut power off, move valve back to filter position and turn the pump back on. What you are experiencing is very common with Sand filters. Be sure that you do NOT Backwash too often. You actually want the sand bed to get dirty. This filters water better. However, you Must Backwash when the pressure rises over 10 PSI after the filter is backwashed and cleaned. The best surefire method is to watch the flow out of the return closest to the filter. When the water is returning back into the pool with good velocity, the filter is clean. When the return flow slows dramatically, it is time to Backwash. Hope this helps.

The forum recommends to backwash your filter when your filter pressure rises by 25% over your clean pressure.

Take care.
