Ag ladder mat suggestions?

New pool owner here! I have an ag pool with the steps, ive been told i should get a mat, however, they are so expensive! Are there any other options?? I've looked through other posts here but didn't really get a good answer.

Thanks! Can I cut it for each leg? The larger ones would just be under it, so not sure what's best.

Don't see why not. I just put it under the hole bottom leg on ours
