Putting AGP on artificial grass?

We have enjoyed having a 18' X 4' AGP for the last 6 years. Just replaced the original with a new one last summer. We use a sand filter and salt water system. This winter we bought a new house that has SynLawn artificial grass in the back yard. We thought it would be great to put the pool on. But this week I called the installer just to check it that it is OK and he said he feels the weight of the pool will permanently damage the turf. He can't say for 100% sure because he doesn't know anyone who has done it. He told us what the previous owners spent on the lawn and we were shocked -over $20,000! We can't ruin a lawn that expensive in order to have the pool up for 3 months. The kids are devastated. :( Does anyone know? Has anyone put a pool that large on Synlawn? Is the guy correct? There is no where else in the yard to put the poll but on the lawn.

Sad in NM

Yeah, putting a pool on turf will definitely compress it and, depending on what kind of infill is used, it could permanently deform the area. You could wind up with it getting so stretched out that once you remove the pool the turf will buckle up, get wrinkles and never go flat again. Not sure if the cost quoted is correct but if it's a large area (like > 1000 sq ft) then I'd believe it's definitely over $10k.

Maybe you can get some landscapers in to give you some options? Perhaps consider putting in a more "permanent" AGP with a deck?

Since it is artificial, could you not just be able to cut out the portion you need, roll it up and replace it later when the pool comes down? Be a good time for you make sure you have a good base along with proper leg support blocks before you put the pool up.
