11 days of SLAM and still green - what am I missing?

Hey!
I’m 11 days and 36 gallons in and running out of POP!
14000 gal AGP with sand filter. Adjusted my PH to 7,2 and TA to 80 before starting. CYA was between 35 and 40. Used 16 as SLAM level.

Day one was bad! Checked and added chlorine every 30 mins for the first few hours. Water went from dark green to brown and then to bright green. Checked levels and added chlorine every hour for the next few days. Brushed and vacuumed every day.

Deep cleaned the filter on day 6 because I was reading everything I could find on here to help me figure out why we were going through chlorine so fast but seeing no change. Filter was awful and really needed that!
I also checked my CYA again - and it was less than 30 - I don’t know where it went?! I added stabilizer 1 lb at a time and after 3 lbs (over 3 days) it still didn’t read at 30 but I keep the SLAM at 16 knowing it had to be at least 30 but was likely not all the way down to 0 before adding.
Days 6,7,8,9 - chlorine consumption dropped significantly. I was only adding about a gallon total each day. Checking levels every 3-4 hours and still brushing and vacuuming daily. Water has been milky green with no change except I can see I little further into the pool.

Yesterday (day 10) I rechecked the CYA and it is 40, but maybe a little more than 40….I can definitely see the dot at 50 and not at 40 but questioned myself at the halfway point between the 40 and 50, so I decided to round up and keep my SLAM at 20. (back to the sun, quick glance at waist level, multiple tests with that sample)

So now I’m 2 days into SLAM at 20 but back at a higher chlorine consumption during the day and still no change in the green color.

There is nothing in the pool that could be holding onto algae. I’ve scrubbed the skimmer and outlet multiple times. I just don’t know what else to do.

Is this normal? I’ve had a green pool before and it only took about 2-3 days to get to the blue/gray color and about a week to be clear. Please help!

thanks. Yes. I’m sure there isn’t anything in the pool. I’ve gotten in it twice to be sure I wasn’t missing anything with the vacuum. I don’t think I have anything to lose by draining water at this point. I’m desperate! I’ve even considered the big no-no FLOC 😭

I’ve spent the last week reading everything! I found this site about 3 years ago and it has made taking care of my pool so much easier and cheaper than following the pool store advice. I’ve learned so much! But I was at a loss with this one.

Dude, we're in IDENTICAL boats except I'm in Ohio... Posted my issues here: First time owner, new to US Northeast - Opening challenges
I'll let you know if anything new pops up in my thread lol.

I'm 32 gallons of chlorine into my third week of SLAM.

My water looks identical to yours. I tried shutting the filter off for about 12 hours to see if it was just dead algae that wouldn't drop...no luck. Looked the same as before but with the day/night's surface debris on top.

Worst case, it's nice to know there's company in the EXACT misery I'm dealing with :ROFLMAO:

I guess it’s good not to be the only one - but dang - I’m ready to be over this!!! 😂 good luck!

Maybe check you sand filter ( i assume that is what you have) for rat holing. In other words you incoming water is just going strait thru filter and returning without sand grabbing the gunk.

Think i would read up here about a deep clean. It is easy, 10 minutes to remove top of filter, 10 minutes to clean sand, 10 minutes to put back together.

Thanks. I did do a deep cleaning on day 6 after finding info about it on here when I was frantically searching for what to do next.

Update on FC levels for today
10pm - added enough to bring to 20ppm
1am - 20 ppm
7 am - 20 ppm
12:30 - 20 ppm
3:30 - 16 ppm
My pool is shaded up until about noon so now I feel like my CYA really is 40 and I’m losing the extra chlorine to the sun.
It looks like an algae bloom but it doesn’t seem to be acting like an algae bloom.
