Uh oh... green hair could mean copper in the water. Water form a well or have you used algaecides in the past? Well, in any case, we're happy to have you with us. Let us know if you have any questions. Always glad to help.

The green hair is caused by the copper in the algaecide you've been using. Help the wife shampoo her hair with catchup, and it will remove the ionized copper from it. It might to 2 go rounds to get it all, but it will.
If you would like to learn to maintain your pool without using algaecides and phoshpate removers, then clicking on the pool school button is the best place to start.

Just want to put this link here to your friend helping you with your pool so everyone knows what has been going on: Petaluma pool needs water balanced.
Looks like the copper either came from previously used algaecides or possibly stripped from the heater when the pH crashed.
